Pigs get shot on sight. Just a rule on our place.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I had this exact problem this morning. I was just sitting in the stand with the camera in hopes of getting some good pics. I corned the roads some and 6 pigs were there when it was light enough to see (6:45am). Some deer tried to come out but didn't stay long because they were scared of the pigs. Feeders went off at 7:50am and the pigs stayed till ALL the corn was gone.

I have seen this senario many, many times over the years. If you shoot a pig as soon as you can see good enough to shoot, the deer will still come out. I've had deer many times come out 5-15 minutes after I shoot a pig. I just leave the pig till after I'm done hunting.

If you don't shoot, a few deer may come in but they won't stay long. The biggest problem you have is if you don't shoot, they will be at the feeder every time till you do. After you shoot one, they will either leave your area for a while, or go nocturnal.

I have shot pigs in one sendero while deer are feeding in another several times, only once did the deer leave, but they came back out in 5 minutes. More times than not, the deer just look up for a second and go back to feeding. I have shot pigs over the heads of deer and the deer come back out and feed around the dead hog.

So, unless you shoot the pigs, your going to be fighting this problem every time the feeders go off...

If I see a pig and have a weapon its dirt nap time regardless of what I'm doing.

My strategy is: If there are no deer, wait a while and see if one shows up. If the pigs run deer off, rain hellfire and brimstone upon their hairy little heads.

Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice makes permanent.

Opening weekend it'd be dirt naps for porkers. As many as I could get.

Had this happen to me last year opening morning, only the porker was so big I thought it was a calf. Just as it was light enough for me to feel certain it was a big old porker it was gone. I had my sights on a 10 point I saw the day before, well sure enough he strolls in about 8am, and he's missing 1/2 of one beam. What a difference a day makes!

They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason! nidea

Shooting, deer don't hit my feeder when hogs are doing so frequently.

that is usually when I get ticked off enough to end my hunt.

My stand set-ups make it to where I can have hogs on the feeder and still see plenty of deer that have no intention of going to the feeder anyway.

This was opening morning last year.

Any pig that mills around my hunting area gets a Dirt nap ASAP!!
At my stand locations I run two feeders. One feeder will be pinned for deer only. The other is placed 150 to 200 yards the other direction. It is open to deer and hogs.
I also take a slingshot with me to the deer stand that I for running the cows off if needed.

I would shoot the pig. I don't like to shoot deer opening morning unless it's a good shooter.

We have no piggies on our lease (knock on wood) and hope to keep it that way. I would shoot them suckers in a heart beat.

I've never shot a pig. So, the pig would get it.

I put lead into as many of them as possible.
Hogs don't get passes with me.....EVER!

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!
