I don't know if this is true or even possible but... I talked to a man (here in TX) who grows corn and they have yet to sell this years harvest. They are expecting to get around $12 to $14 per bushel in December (according to him). Who knows what the commodities market will do but right now it is saying there will be a long term rise in prices. ( http://futures.tradingcharts.com/intraday/ZCZ12) He is smoking crack.... And is a hell of a gambler. To .Pay for elevator space that long. Most farmers contract part of their crop. My mom contracted a big chunck at 7.25 bushel and I did little less but at 7.50. What a lot of people don't realize is majority of corn in the us is in and harvested and already sold. The next few months corn will be based of total bushels brought in vs future need, and speculation. More humans mean more need for corn and corn based products. Corn has been under priced for decades when compared to inflation... Thanks the the ethanol its jumped it up... But has also caused the most volatile market we have ever seen. If corn goes to 20 a bushel I think it will bankrupt the majority of farmers... You cant put it in the ground at that price and grow it at that price and then see a drop at harvest which it will do to no logical reason for it to be that high in the first place

In Nebraska and Kansas they are selling as fast as they can get it out of the field. So for someone to say they have not sold there's yet can only mean one thing. They are betting that the harvest this year will be the record low that is being predicting. IF it is the lowest then his corn will bring a higher price, but at a cost to him. As BO BO said to pay an elevator that long is crazy. The price difference between now and 3 months will not be enough to off set his cost of the elevator.

Smokin' Crack... That's one way to put it...
Maybe he is but that is what he told me. Maybe they have elevator space of their own? I know very little about "the corn growing business" but I think he is waiting on a "record" price and is taking the gamble. If it costs a dime to make a dollar it could be worth the risk.
I'm with you guys though, I'd sell as soon as possible as long as the price is fair...

It's just a hell of a gamble... Prices always fall up til late Dec but he has 3 $ a bushel to get back up that high minus his storage fees.
I got respect for him though, its diffently rolling the dice

The crop is already in! The only thing that will drive up the prices later this year is South America. If something happens to their crop or is PREDICTED to happen to it. If all goes well, the price of corn will be back to $5 bushel in a few months....but, there is way to many factors to accurately predict what the price will be in a few months.

If corn hits $20 a bag, I'll just have to set my timers down to one feeding a day, for one second. The deer and hogs will just have to fight over what hits the ground. On the bright side, corn will only cost me $20 per feeder for the entire season.
