Blues/Scaled

I just wish I would see some little ones of either running around.

Yeah we have a group of 20 hunters from Houston willingly to pay 3 dollars an acre to shot quail, not a bad deal I thought. Some people said we went to low for quail leasing. I don't know, but 20,000 acres at 3 bucks an acre seemed like a good deal.

I saw a big covey of Gambels at Canyons West Golf Course on hole #11. Probaly 15-20 birds. I was looking for a ball Out of Bounds on the left. Surprised to see them. by the way Canyons West is just west of Weatherford.

They had to have been raised and released because that is about 600 miles east of their eastern most habitat.

Texas Parks and Wildlife surveys will be out after the 1st of September. My sources are giving me some amazing numbers.

We got 2" rain monday and tuesday at the lease and rain guage had 1" today from last night. We have really got the birds. Saw 13 covey's with 3 sizes of birds on the roads this morning and we only have 3000 acres. I may lease the quail hunting this year if it stays this good.

So it sounds like a 2005 repeat could be in order in the panhandle/rolling plains?? If it is going to be anywhere close to 2005 I will have to plan a trip.

I don't think it will be 05 but it is looking like it will be second to it so far. 05 on the first day we jumped 105 covey's on our survey.

Tigger says TPWD has something special in store..lets see how their numbers compare to the 05' survey.

Do you think there will be 75% of the 05' numbers?

I have had reports of better numbers than 05 fisher, scurry kent, and dickens counties and garza but I am also want to see what tpwd says but I have also had some bad reports in fisher and scurry county. I will know a lot more after the first hard freeze. Good snake crop.

I have seen the report from Dale Rollins adn somehow I deleted on my email. It said most people are afraid to report how good it is, because of what happend last year. It did state Kent Co. 7 out of a possible 10 for this year with last year being a 5. Will try and get another copy of the report.

I have one place just North of the Crosby and Garza county line and we are seeing much better numbers than last year with lots of little chicks running around. I watched a male and female run the family around for about 15 minutes the other day watching them.

We are seeing a ton of birds at our place South of Spur as well. Don't know if it will be as good as 05, but much better than the last several years.
