Fire ant have really dropped the numbers of quail in the area, hell they even are taking out cottontail nests also. Found a cottontail nest that "had" 3-4 babies in it but the fire ants got them.

Hatches I saw seem to have around 10 birds or so each. As far as turkey we have had an over abundance the last two years so I am sure there is plenty. I hate the corn pirates besides during spring turkey season. As far as where our place is We are off of hwy 70 south of Clairmiont a few miles. We have had no cattle on our place for 2 plus years and everything is great cover to nearly to thick. We had 80 acres get burned accidentaly this year and it looks great we will probablly do a controlled burn next year on a half section or so.

The only burn I am familiar with is the 4500 acres that burned where 70 meets 380. You are in a good area. I have been there since 1990 and really enjoy the area. I am getting good reports from the ranch hands.

Good deal. We will be in the NW corner of Kent on the Dickens line. Looks like they just received a some rain last night from left over Dolly. That should help them get through this heat.

Of course, last year we saw quite a few in Sept and then when quail season came, they dissappeared.

Saw two different groups of birds in Runnels co. this weekend. First group was about 15 chicks strong(one mature rooster with them). Other group had two mature roosters with them and was 25-30 birds strong.

Great recent quail reports! One question/concern..can the chicks survive the recent heat?

at my location yes. we run several pivots on a regular basis so left over water in the tracks seems to keep them going.

Man I am depressed. All this talk of chicks everywhere and I have yet to see any. I see pairs almost daily at my water hole, but no babies. Last years saw lots, but not this summer so far.

We are finally starting to see a few more blues. Enough I think to finally lease out the quail for the first time out there. We have seen a few Bobs, but far and few between. We have seen the "Scaled quail", I thought they were Bobs, but I was corrected.
