And I don't mean drunk!

5 weekends
3 outfitters

I don't even want to discuss the cost at this point.
I no longer believe there is a hog problem in TX. I'm looking forward to deer season cause the deer must be huge from eating all the form I've been hunting!
Seriously would someone mind tying a hog to a tree and letting me shoot it? At this point I may soon have an outdoors themed garage sale, or I might need a place to crash the wife is about to have my tail!

Wow, three outfitters and you have not made a shot?. I know kills are not guaranteed but damn. You and I need to chat. I need to get out the door I'm doing a pigeon shoot this morning but I will PM you when I get back. And no I'm not interested in your money.

Mike, I hear talk about hogs moving a lot at night due to hunting pressure. Are you booking day or night hunts?
Deer hunters complain about hogs all the time. Hogs came to my place about 2 years ago, during the night. Rooted around oak trees in yard (six feet from the house) and a little in the pastures. I never saw or heard them. They haven't been back. Strange, I guess they were just passing thru. They had better not stop for long here, I will give them a serious case of lead poison.

I've been skunked the past two weeks. Pigs have been around, but never came to the feeder.

Some people have no shame. Charging someone for putting them on hogs, and no hogs. Kinda like stealing. Least they could do is allow you to come back free of charge till you see some. Now if you missed some shots they did put you on hogs.

It is acorn season and will likely be well into November when the glut is finally consumed and feeders become easier pickings than just the yummy acorns that are current all over north and east Texas where there are oaks (maybe other areas as well). Your deer traffic to the feeders is likely reduced as well. I see this pattern each year, starting in Sept-Oct and sometimes going into December. Right now, for example, corn that would normally have been 100% consumed a month ago is now piling up on the ground and so the feeders have been turned to lower settings and we still have extra.

No, they aren't charging for putting them on hogs and it isn't like stealing. They are charging for guiding the person on a hunt, be it for hogs, deer, elk, moose, or bear. The guide performs a service like your doctor. You get charged for the work, not for the results.

I appreciate what the guides do however if being a guide is what you take pride ni and your job I would think that any error in setup It would be very frustrating. Last night I sat in a blind watching a feeder with no light. THe weekend before that I watched the feeder get hit by racoons all night long. I asked the guide when I spoke to him if the feeders were getting hit, he said daily and it was hot. I saw a few hog tracks around the feeder but not "hot." I honestly think that the "hog problem" in texas has become a lucrative cash cow for ranchers and farmers. I'm by no means an excellent hunter but I understand noise and light disciple and how to check and prevent winding animals. Hopefully in the future I will get better oppurtunities. I think I am done paying into the we've got a hog problem, what you have have is another oppurtunity to offset costs.

BINGO!!!! YOU JUST figured it out. I said the EXACT same thing a couple weeks a go and was bashed out the door by the hog huggers and pig squeezers that like stimulating the economy by getting in the $2.00 bounty some county put on them. Man I was bashed by everyone in Texas. You are exactly right, Bob Richardson was trapping hogs in North Tx and was doing really good with it. Then the landowners found that the helicoptor hunters would pay to fly there properties so they cut Bob off cause the needed the hogs. Its way more hype than a problem

I guess you know the "they"?, and what was said.

Last guide I paid "guaranteed I will see hogs" and I did 2 both RIP.

Guiding and putting someone in a stand with no hogs seen and saying chaaaa ching. Is not the same thing. With that mental note I would steer clear of any company you work for, especially if it involved outfitting. I guess any shi##y job is ok as long as you did your best. Here is your ribbon for 50th place so you don't feel bad.
Where are we going? Why are we in this hand basket? What is this country coming to?

Oh my doctor from pakistan (UT Health Science Center)did a good job of removing my kidney/cancer grin only charged $12,000. Normal price was close to $40,000( federal BCBS plan). If he did a bad job I would sue his a$$, if I lived, if I didn't I would have no complaints laugh

Well I am in central Texas, I would love to hunt again. Maybe next weekend if you know of a reputable guide that doesn't want a car payment size hunt, trophy, and whatever else fee. I understand a fee to hunt someone's property as these days lawsuits are the norm. I enjoy spending time in the woods and I learn a little more each time but its really time for me to cash out and put some meat in the freezer.

I have only paid one time to hunt hogs http://www.northtxwildlife.com . Guide dropped me off around 6:30 PM and picked me up at 5am. Fee was $160.00 all the hogs you want to shoot as long as you don't let them go to waste. I was paying for access to the property, which I don't mind. But had someone not have the equipment I have or experience hunting. They might have had a bad experience. M bennet hunts with dogs and is good people. Might ask him if you could tag along, every once in a while he needs a shooter. When I was with him landowner wanted 3 deer shot, offer was to any one there that wanted. Everyone had places they needed to be, plus raining. But it shows not everyone is wanting to run around shooting everything in sight if land owner lets them on the property. I was last one out and locked the gate, first time I had met any of the group and was trusted to make sure gate was locked. Weather was bad , but people were good, I had a great time.

I've had the same experience with M bennet. Great guy to do business with. Although he's mostly into catching hogs.

Mike I would be interested in knowing what outfitters you used because I had a the exact experience last week in central tx. There were four of us spread out on one hundred acres high fenced that was supposedly full of hogs and nobody so much as heard a hog let alone seen one. We hunted from 5 pm till 11 pm. We were charge 600.00 and told that's just how it goes sometime. I know it's a business but I just don't think I could do that to people.

I'm really not interested in outing a guide or outfitter as no good but if you message me I will gladly share notes and experiences. I don't want to take food out of someone's mouth but if I see a scam is in process ill be the first to let you know. So far I've hunted in bertram, salado, and Hubbard.

When there's a dollar involved there's always someone around who will exaggerate, lie or cheat in any industry. I'm not saying these outfitters did or didn't. I'm sure there's gotta be some good outfitter recommendations from board members.

Life's too short to share it with a crappy knife!

Good outfitters are usually booked up. When I was running my electronic repair business 1990's, had 30 day waiting list(repairs coming in faster than I could get them out) first come first serve. I did not want to refuse customers so I showed them list thinking they would hold off on dropping off unit to repair, this way I would get caught up. But they didn't want to deal with other shops because of being ripped off, so I kept behind. When businesses don't have customers you need to look into why, before you learn the hard way. Before buying electronic item call warranty center act like you have a problem and see the service you get, you may buy from another mfg after the B.S some company's put customers thru. Hope you find a place to hunt hogs.
