How many forum members have actually seen a cow or calf killed by a coyote or pack of coyotes? Not asking about sick or dead livestock being eaten by scavengers, but healthy animals. Also not asking about the blizzard of 19-- or the Donner party.

I haven't seen a kill but I have on two occasions shoot coyotes stalking my cattle. Witnessed them stalking numerous times over the years without getting a shoot.
On the other hand, I've seen cattle chase lone coyotes all the way to the fence.

Worst times are calving. Older cows and heifers are the most likely targets with their newborn or being born calves targets. Then if the cow is weakend during birth she is next.

We were out varmint hunting about two years ago and came up on a group of cows after dark. As we're driving along spotlighting we notice a cow laid down giving birth to a calf and two coyotes were eating the calf before it even got out of it's mom. They both died for their trouble

Haven't seen coyotes do it personally, but town dogs used to run in packs on my uncle's ranch that bordered a small West Texas town. They'd kill calves for sport and not even eat them. Needless to say, lots of people's "pets" never made it back home.

I've seen it first hand once. I tried to get seperation between the coyotes and the calf and mother, they would not be detoured, if they had, I would have shot them.
