Anyone see the Mega Hog episode of MonsterQuest on the History Channel. I am watching it right now and it is actually good. I did not know this but there are skeptics out there that say there are not hogs 1000lbs or bigger that were completely wild. They say that they were pen raised and then released. Great episode. I hope others are watching too!

Can't say much for 1000# or above, but definitely 500#! Rare, but not unheard of. Check Glenn Guess' articles in Boar Hunter magazine-you'll have to get back issues and I don't remember which one. Anyway his was like 540 or something crazy like that. Shot it with a .243 BTW!

I caught some of the MQ show and it was interesting until I fell asleep. Too much work lately.

We've caught almost 400lb at the lease but 1000lb is awefully big. I liked the camera part of the show, just wished it would of worked long enough to start see more of how they live.

I saw the show and liked it! Fascinating to see others hard at work doing what I love. If I could find a way to make a living hog hunting, I would be doing it!!!!

I went hoggin' this weekend. I commented to the feller that runs the place about the show, and how that hog with the camera on his back ran for like 4 miles until he was out of range.. The guy laughed and said that hog is probably still running today trying to get out from under that camera! I was amazed that they would travel that distance. I thought hogs would have a home range area that they tended to stick to. Oh well. Learn something new every day.

I agree with what was posted above. I would love to have seen that hog meeting up with some others in the brush. I can hear it now..

Hog 1: Hey Bob, did you know you have a camera on your back?
Camera Hog: No [censored] Sherlock, help me get this contraption off before they figure out where we are at.
Hog 1: Wait, you mean that thing is live!!!!!
Camera Hog: Well, of course they can see you right now!
Hog 1: Oh Crap! You have got to get out of here! Head towards Mexico, don't stop! Keep running!
Camera Hog: Well, I didn't really want to-but if you say so, I'll go!
Hog 1: Hey, send me a bottle of tequila-we'll miss you!
Camera Hog: Okay-(out of breath) I... Have... Got... To... go!!!!

Except for the "monster fish" episode where the guy caught that huge gar, I've been disappointed in all these shows. Lots of talk and stories, nothing new or substantial.

I took a big boar that weighed in at #416 lbs on my place near Paducah, Tx on the South pease River. Heck the head and cape alone weighed close to 70 lbs. I thought it would be funny to do a big pig shoulder mount. $550 bux later it wasnt quite as funny. I saw the same Monster quest marathon..good show..I didnt realize that the place where those guys shot that #770 lb. boar was so close to my place...plaska..or plaxico..something like that....I wouldnt be suprized if someone eventually shot a 1000 lb pig.

Well when you pen raise a pig & it gets to be 700, 800 or even 1000lbs..NOTHING will keep it in if its decides it wants to get out. But they will be PEN RAISED even if they are shot in the wild AFTER they escape.

I saw a replay of it, not a bad show, I didn't like watching that horse falling in the rocks. I think I would have edited that part, and lmao when they lost their camera. Thats what happens when a city slicker gets an idea.

I saw this show the other night!
I made the prediction that they would not even catch a 200 pounder much less a 1000 pound beast!!

200 pound wild hogs are not very common, and 300 pounders are even more rare (I have only seen 2 that would top 300 and I killed both of them) when you start to talk about 1000 pound WILD hogs then you are talking about something that just does not exist!!!!!!!!!!

I still enjoyed watching them give it their best shot though!

Guys I personally have shot 7 hogs in my life 4 of which were under 150 one that was 213 and then the other was 279 I have been an I witness and assisted in the loading of multiple hogs well over 300 or 400 pounds that were weighed on certified cattle scales. With that being said we were spotlighting when the bigger ones were out and I have seen even LARGER ONES. Do they exist in the wild? I believe so its just he hasn't been recovered yet because i have witnessed hogs that were into the 500 pound range basically absorb lead and keep on truckin three or four places next door.

I watched that show, and actually know the guys that were trying to trap hogs in Quinlan. I've caught I would guess over a thousand hogs in the past ten or twelve years with dogs, and my biggest yet is 280 lbs, and that was a BIG hog. I've only seen a few that others have shot or caught that went over the 300 mark.
