Ok I need some help. I am in a position to buy an ATV type of vehicle. I really need to get something like a Rhino, but my son wants a 4 wheeler so we will have to wait and see what happens on that. I don’t see paying the extra for a new one so I am looking at used ones. I have never owned an ATV so I really don’t know what to look out for when looking at used ones. Each of the ads I have looked at say the unit has like 50 hours or 100 hours or what ever. I know that the fewer hours the better but what is a really high number of hours that I should just stay away from? I know on cars when you hit about 100K miles you start putting money into the thing to keep it going. Any help would really be appreciated as I am just starting out on this.

ATV's, according to my Insurance guy, depreciate about 50% when they roll off the showroom floor.

My Yamaha's don't have an hour meter so I don't know much about that. I think a better idea is to look at the owner and try to figure out how it has been treated. Adult owned/ridden makes a difference. Like a lot of other things, most abuse seems to come from those who aren't making the payments and are under 25 YOA.

Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

not sure how old your son is, but you could buy 2 great conditioned ATV's for the price of 1 rhino or etc...

Yea I have seen that, which is one reason that i am asking form members for help when looking at used ones. My son is 18 which is why he wants the 4 wheeler to play on. Me I am more intrested in something that will get me were i need to go with the least amount of damage to my old body. I am open at thid point but also need as much info as I can get

If you are going to get a used ATV, ask for the maintenance logs. I bought a new Yamaha 450 last year and the big thing they pushed was to make sure you change your break in oils after 20 hours/200 miles. If you don't, the warranty will be void. Personally, I would buy a new one because then you know what you are getting.
