But, I've never seen the acorns this bad. Deer are virtually non existent at the feeders. With so many on the ground, even hunting the trails through the oaks are hit or miss.

Buddy was saying the same yesterday. We hunt the hill country and apparently have a ton of acorns down too. May have to change some tactics come rifle season if the acorn crop is still good.
Don't take life so seriously, you'll never make it out alive!

Plenty of acorns on the ground about the size of my fingertip here in Coryell county. Small but plentiful. Still got deer at my feeder eating corn. Thinking of raking up some of the acorns and throwing them inside my pig panels around my feeder.

To bad you can't move to a acorn tree to hunt.

That is what we used to do on our lease in Evant. Move stands to where the deer were feeding through. Effective and a whole lot more fun than sitting on a feeder.

Throw out a pile or two of sweet horse feed a day or so before the hunt. The smell of molasses will get them moving. Done this in areas where I rarely saw much moving and they showed up quickly. Axis love it too.
always room for another buddy!

I always have "go to" stands that are in the creek bottoms around acorns. I have tons of acorns on my place in Oklahoma as well. We scared up a nice 8 or 10 while looking for a stuck pig and I saw 4 deer this weekend while hog hunting my creek bottom stand. They were all munching on White Oaks. I did have a doe/fawn come to one feeder at 3pm on Saturday and a nice 11 point hit a feeder right before legal shooting hours as over on Friday night.
Just to let you know, I was putting about 10 hours a day in the stands for 3 days to see this activity. My buddy just hunted an hour of two in the morning and evening and didn't see anything.

They are bad in Bell County too. We still have deer at the feeders. My feeder is in an oak thicket and I still havent seen a deer in the stand. I may get in a brush blind this wknd to scope out another area of the property.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Axis love it too. was at the lease this weekend to fill feeders and we put out about 4 or 5 pounds of sweetfeed friday, sunday it was gone. Rancher still hasn't replaced his goats since he sold out due to drought and vegetation and acorns were plentiful. Deer love sweetfeed.
the man at the top of the mountain didn't fall up it

I wish the acorns were disappearing here in Walker county, but they're everywhere! Trees are still full, dropping like rain...think I'll move my ladder stand across the pasture this Thursday and give it a try this weekend. But it's a good problem to have IMO
I will get off in a little bit You shouldnt have said that

It's been a strange year where I hunt. We have huge ancient oaks as well as younger trees in the 200 acre creek bottom where I hunt, and every year they've been loaded with acorns and seeing more than just a few does and small bucks was difficult since they wouldn't come to the corn as long as the acorns were on the ground. This year because of the severe drought we had the trees have not had one acorn and our feeders are attracting both does and bucks and all age classes. I've seen more deer and large bucks already this season than all the past years we've had the place. Problem is all our neighbors that have corn feeders are going to have the same deer because the game camera indicates they just go from one feeder to the next.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
