I was wondering if anyone has had any success hunting on the corps land around lake Whitney or Aquilla? I hunted up there last year and ended up getting a spike. I havent been able to make it up there this year yet but plan on doing so soon. I have been hunting the Corps land around Lake Waco the past couple of days but have had little success. So, Whats happening up around lake Whitney?

I got a permit two years ago, and checked it out. I wasn't impressed with the places I went to. I'm sure there are some good places to hunt there,I just never spent enough time on it.

I've never heard of anyone doing great on it, but I'm sure you can when you see some of that land back up to giant ranches with feeders. I guess if you spend the time walking a lot of those places you'll find a honey hole.

There are deer and pigs there.

It's more about all the traffic through the areas open to hunt. Horse back riders, hikers and idiots who will steal your stuff.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

That's the number one reason I don't hunt public land; someone is bound to dance at your parade.

I agree; the problem I didn't like was that if I shot something a mile away I would have to drag it that far back to my truck where you have to park. I like to drive up and pick up my harvest. I'm too old to TRYING to get a heart attack by dragging a deer that far. laugh

I packed a stand in a long ways. I saw deer and passed some does but when the horse people see you in tree and come by on the horse just to stop and talk to you to see if you are having any luck it kinda puts a dampner on the fun.

Kind of like riding a mini bike next to some horse riders..They just don't mix.

I haven't hunted there in a couple of years. Did they put in horse trails or are these peole just cross country riding?

I saw my first wild rattlesnake at Whitney about 7 years ago.

X2, some of the riff-raf that live around that lake are unbelievable, sister in laws uncle quit hunting it after he had his truck broken into while hunting for the second time, both times they busted his driver side windshield

They just keep the deer where you can't hunt them:

Iam hunting at aquila I see plenty of deer iam passing deer no problem with people either. I got promission to use a mans land as a cut through to the public land Iam about a mile from the cematry and about two from hackberry its like my own lease but free. I got some huge bucks "to me" coming in at night thats why I pass the does hoping they might be behind. gonna try it in the morning Ill post pics of what I see or get.
