That's a cool little deer. Weird, but cool. I wouldn't shoot him. To me that's like and Albino or a Piebald or something that you just never see. Thanks for posting

Sucks to have to waste a tag but if you got one left over at the end of the season, you might ought to get rid of those genetics with a good centerpunch.

He's got to catch them bedded down in order to have a chance.

I wouldn't worry about shooting him. He looks too short to breed.

Fellers, this obviously a Key Deer from Florida. I'm betting that he blown off course by a passing hurricane. He floated across the Gulf of Mexico on a grass mat. He's now on an epic journey to return home. I'm sure Disney will do a cartoon on his trials and tribulations.

could be bad genetics or it could be that he was orfined at a very young age and didnt get all the nutrients from his mother to allow him to grow. the reason i say this is a buddy of mine found a fawn a few years back after it had been born and the mother didnt make it past the delivery so he took it home and bottle raised it he had it for a couple years until it ran off it never did grow to full size.

Tiny midget deer I guess. That is my very scientific evaluation.

Ive never noticed them when they are young on my place but I do have some midget mature bucks. They will really fool you if they are by themselves. They look full bodied and sport really nice racks to their body size.

My guess is he was born very late (Oct/Nov) to a doe that was bred as a fawn. She had a very late fawn when she was 16 or so months old. Tough on both of them to make it at that time of the year if conditions were bad and got cold. My guess is he will be at least 3 yrs old in the next month or two. I have seen one fawn born to a doe fawn like this. He was born in late October to a yearling doe. She was killed in late season by a doe hunter. He kept his spots till the next fall. He was a spike the first year. 5 point the next year and silver/gray in coat color. At 3 he was a 7 point and still silver/gray coated. You could still see the faint spots on his sides and back. I left the ranch and do not know what happened to him. He was always smaller than bucks in his age class even on free choice feed.
