Daughter and her husband were coming back to West Texas from Austin yesterday, October 2. They were in the Menard-Eden area and they said they saw a good buck chasing a doe. My daughter has been in the stand with me plenty of times so she knows what was going on. I guess the bucks and does are getting tuned up for the big event.

I suspected this last weekend BenBob. I hunt in Bertram and already the bucks were breaking up their bachelor groups then.

Found fresh scrapes everywhere. Thought it was a bit early for the Hill Country but, with this weather I'm not surprised.

I'm headed to mason Tom hoping to put an arrow in one. With this talk I wonder if its to early for some rattling and grunting?

I saw one buck trailing a doe last weekend, but didn't think much of it. Bucks were still being seen milling about in groups.

Bucks are in groups at my place. not seeing a lick of doe chasing outside of Austin yet.

i bet this little cold spell this weekend may change things though.

I just got game cam pics for the past month from Menard and mostly bucks still together and small necks. They shed velvet between 9/16 and 9/18.Last year according to the local folks and game warden they rutted next to last week of bow season.
