Velocity
100 Barnes TSX. 257wby weather by ammo .420 3570 muzzle 3312 3079 2840 2396 2203
25-06 federal ammo
100gr tsx P2506H 25-06 Rem. 3210 muzzle 2973 2749 2536 2332 2138
Disclaimer No idea what length barrel they used Fwiw, w/ that bullet the accumark chronographed in a range from 3698-3709 when wby had it trying to figure out what was wrong with it. 338-06AI wouldn't be a bad one to try out.

338.06 AI in a mauser action. I like that! I almost put 8mm-06. You beat me to it. Just to be different, 8x57mmJS on an old '96 or '98 action with a new barrel, somewhere around 26" and medium weight. Would make a real nice deer stand rig.

Not saying anything's wrong with that data but if the exact same bullet is used energy and velocity will bleed off at similar amounts which would lead one to think the spread would remain uniform throughout not shrink. I noticed this about two weeks ago with the Wby chart. If you check the Wby velocity over 100 yard increments it goes like this: 3570 3312 3079 2840 2396 2203 Notice between 300-400 yards how much velocity drops as opposed to any other yardage range? I'll break it down another way. This way is broken down by speed loss 0(Muzzle)258 233 239 444 193 One of these things is not like the other... I took it one step further using the velocity and B.C. from the Wby numbers and plugged it into a ballistic calculator. Here's the numbers from it... 3570 3305 3062 2831 2613 2406 2209 25-06 Federal: 3210 2966 2740 2527 2324 2131 1948If you notice I went out an extra 100 yards, on purpose, because if you omit the blue number, it's essentially the same as Wby's published numbers. My guess is the data was flubbed up and they skipped their 400 yrd velocity and shifted their 500 yd over. But I digress...

At least I'm not the only one to notice, one would think the would correct that instead of just letting it go on.
And FWIW I trust no factory ammunition's published velocity most seem to be short or so inconsistent it falls short on average, unless you chronograph it yourself you have no idea how true or untrue it is.

Thanks Scooterb Well I stand corrected....so when you subtract the 2 sets of data im CORRECT out to at least 300yds then all the way out to 600yds (1/3rd of a Mile) it still has well over 260 more. I have chronographed the 100gr. TSX load out of my 24" barrel at 3600fps and before I had the barrel cut down from 26" it was 3650 so I believe the muzzle FPS from the WBY site.

Is that an average of shot string velocity or just the highest. One would think yoi might have a slightly faster barrel since your obtained velocity is 100fps higher than the advertised 3550 from Weatherby.
