Honestly, it will depend on who did the work. Reputable gunsmith or shadetree? With that kind of work done, I would want to shoot it first before buying.

i would think cutting the barrel down would affect value.
why did you cut it down?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

why did you cut it down? I didn't. The gunsmith that owned it before me did. He wanted to make it easier to get in and out of the stand and easier to carry when stalking.

I'd go with $750 if he guarantee's his work. Its got a great looking stock, but the cut down barrel would bother the heck out of me. Pretty gun though

Most bolt guns come 20-24" so a 21 is't out of place, just not something usually seen on a #1

Thats a intresting rear ring on that gun. Dont think I have ever seen one like that on a Ruger. Extended rings Leupold makes them with either the front or back one as extended. They're pretty good solutions for giving extra "back or forward" room with scopes- particularly with short-bodied scopes like the Leupold 1.5x5- I've seen them on and had them on several #1s. In regard to the value, since it's a "black-pad" ruger in a common caliber and the barrel has been cut down, I would think $550-$600 might be a stretch.

I agree. Most folks who buy Ruger No. 1's are pretty picky about them being in original condition. Not only that, but the market for No. 1's has softened quite a bit over the last year. $650 is pretty standard for like new in the original box condition.

I am pretty sure the .30-06 was originally 22" barrel so cutting 1" off to get out of a blind easier doesn't really make sense. are there empty holes where there were open sights? It isnt going to be a collector gun in its present configuration. You can get a more accurate single shot for less $$ new from T/C.

If he hadn't mentioned it up front, most folks would never know the difference.

Its definitely a different look without the front sight. If it were mine and I wanted to sell I'd start off at $600 but like has already been said the No 1 crowd is finicky. I have tried to buy/trade for several in the past but they have always backed out, it seems they love those things like children.

No holes in the barrel where the front sight was. I think this is an older version. A forum member sent me a message asking for the serial # to look it up and see when it was made and what version. I know that I don't want to keep it, I hunt with my guns and this one is too pretty to hunt with.

It was manufactured in 1981 according to the serial numbers.

That also looks like an after market recoil pad to me. It should be a nice hunting gun but not what Ruger collectors would want.

What's it worth? I plan on putting it up for sale and need an idea of what's a fair price and a good price. Thanks fellas

I am pretty sure I looked at this rifle at the June Killeen Gun Show. It is an after market pad and the stock has been cut. This rifle was originally one of the AB models. I did not look at it that close, but I did not pick up on the barrel being shortened to 21". If measured from the front of the receiver, that is about what you get. No.1 barrels are measured from the breech block face. It has a very nicely figured buttstock. Someone could get a really nice hunting rifle here.
