Had lots of action this evening. Problem was every deer scented me before I even realized they were even there. Snort wheeze then dead run. Wind was perfect but they still busted me. Gonna leave the Copenhagen behind next time. That is the only thing I can think they are smelling. Scent killer detergent. Clothes in a tub full of cedar branches. Scent killer spray before I walk to stand. Any suggestions?

Did you change clothes once you got into your area or did you put clothes on then drive your truck to your spot?

That can make a difference. Try to keep hunting clothes in their storage container until you reach your hunting area. Change into them and then spray down again.

Sorry for your bad luck.

This is my first time bow hunting. Not used to getting busted because they are smelling me. Gonna get a brand new storage tub tomorrow and a different scent spray. Yesterday changed when I got there. Today dressed at the house and drove in my clothes. Not gonna do that again.

It's you. Besides, the wind wasn't perfect if they were bustin you. But it's not the Cope. Infact, I had a big boar hog come in on me tonite and he got directly below me to my left, turned and walked right under me. Stopped and smelled where I had been spittin, came on around to my right and gave me a 15 yd shot and I blew it. The Cope didn't phase him, as well as the deer that came within of 15 yds of me either. You either stink bad or there was something else going on that you couldn't see. wink grin

How close were you to the feeder?

The wind can't be swirling while in pop ups, it must be blowing in your face while not blowing into their trails..

Any way to elevate? Tripod?

SOmetimes they just bust you scent wise. It wash all my clothes in scent killer detergent, after first running a empty load with the detergent to remove any scent in the washer. I do the same with the dryer with scent killer sheets. I have medium vacuum bags for each set of clothes. In each one goes a fresh scent killed towel, socks, and underware. I bathe wil scnet killer soap and shampoo before each hunt. Pull the scent killed towl out and dy with it. SPray my self down with scent killer and put my clothes on. Brush my teeth with scent killer toothpast. Powder the insides of my boots with scent killer powder. GO to my inseriton point and do it again spraying my bow release everthing. Put on three cedar discs one on my boots, one on my crotch and one on my collar. Spray the bottoms of my boots with coon urine. Walk to the stand, spray again. And I still get blown out at times, but I can tell you one thing I do not get blown out like I did before I got really aerious about my scent. I dip too and spit on the ground. The deer don't care about that. Where I was this weekend, especially this moring I got hit with wind from 3 different directions and half the tie it was swilring, this was a hard hunting weekend for everyone, plus they are hitting acorns. Take a bit more time and bathe and use new clothes every hunt and you should see a difference.

There is no cure-all. Most the scent eliminators are gimmicks and gotchya's. If you were busted, the wind was not perfect. I have Copenhagen with me every hunt and never had a problem. Open a can and set it under your feeder, they will eat around it.

Just because the wind is not blowing at your feed, doesn't mean that it is a good wind. You have to know where your deer are coming and going from and protect those paths also.

Question, how long has the pop up been in place and how many windows were open?
Me starting to think they never smelled you, just sumpthin about the blind they didn't like.

If the wind was right they weren't smelling you.

They must have been seeing you/popup and it was making them nervous.

Try camo'ing the pop up better and watch the wind

I agree; everthing could be a factor. If I'm awake I'm dipping but I don't spit (okay no comments) laugh about the only time I ever get busted if they see me moving before I see them. Keeping your clothes in an air tight container and bathing with scent free soap and using scent a way on everything you take with you will do the trick.. and WIND is the number one factor.

I had the same issue. I started using dead down wind soap, laundry soap, and spray. I think taking a shower if possible before going out has helped me. It will only help you so much you stil have to play the wind. I also spray down the pop up inside before I hunt. This maybe a stupid question but you arent back lit by having all your windows open in your pop up?

Could be the pop-up if you just took it out htere and threw it up without brushing it in and spraying it down, the deer will be spooked by it. I put my pop-ups out on Labor day weekend. By bow season they don't even pay attnetion to them anymore. With that said, don't believe the hype that you can put all the windows up up on those things. I tried that and got busted constantly. I put one window half up and a faoverbale corner half up. I then sit as far back in a corner as I can, I also wear a black top, hat, and face mask. You want to stay as dark as possible. Do not get lit up if you can help it.

I have had the blind out for 2 weeks. When I am not there they are all around it feeding with no problems. I only had 2 windows partially opened. No way I got lit up and the saw me.

I have a 10ft tripod on the same set up, 30 yards out. I just don't feel comfortable in it. I have to stand up to shoot, which is not good because it isn't the sturdiest pos. Also, I have not figured out the shooting downhill issue yet and don't want to wound/cripple a deer and not recover it because I am not proficient at that angle of shot.

20-30 yards out of a typical tripod will not make much difference. Just make sure you use the horizontal distance and not the actual distance (distance from the base of the tripod to your target). At 12-15ft and 25 yards, the difference is a couple of yards and with the speed of the bows, 2-3 yards should not make much difference.

Why can't you shoot sitting down? Trying to stand up when you decide to take a deer would be difficult IMO. Too much movement.

It is a rifle set up for the tripod, and I can't draw back in it because of the railings around the top.

Changed/moved my setup. Surounded the base with fresh cedar branches. Moved a brush pile that was in the middle of the field and stacked around my blind. Then put a little coon piss in it. Hopefully they will just think a coon pissed on the brush pile that has been there for a year.

Yeah they winded, busted and blew at me Sat. morning. So Sunday morning cut cedar limbs and squeezed and rubbed on my clothes, hat, face mask and backpack. They didn't wind me but still didnt come all the way into my feeder.Getting closer though. Need any South or West wind would be perfect but few and far between is it PERFECT in hunting huh?? Good luck.
