Taking a couple of Our Heroes hunting this weekend. One is after an Aoudad and I have a pretty good sized one found. The other is down for a hog, my daughter will be doing a little guiding. Cannot wait to hear those stories.

Will post pictures on Saturday after the hunts...

I'm looking forward to hearing how it went. Getting rained on when you take a soldier hunting, just goes with the territory, I had a friend go to Ft Irwin for desert training and he got rained on the first two days.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

Man what a weekend, I think I put in almost 25 hours of hunting in a blind or on a stalk this weekend, and let me tell you it rained a heck of a lot more than the tenth of an inch the weather station is reporting. That monitor has to be under an umbrella.

First, I need to thank MedicMan218 for his service to our country in the Air Force and then to his community as an EMT first responder. Thank you for the things that you do to help us in our greatest time of need. I personally owe my life to EMT(s) in my home town of Lamar, CO and to the EMTs of Acadain in Austin, TX as they truly saved my life more than one time, but that is a story for another day.

Also, Believer I was more than happy to take Chaplain Lane on a Texas Hog hunt. Being a Chaplin in the Army for 27 plus years has to be a wonderful, crazy, heart pounding and hart breaking job. There are no human words that express thank you enough for that job.

Last but not least, thank you Jake from DB you have helped my tremendously over the last couple of years doing these Hero Hunts and a little duck hunting was a good way close out the wet weekend.

On to the hunts:

We started out with the plan of hunting both Aoudad and Hogs this weekend and man did we try on the Aoudad. At least we were able to see him for about 3 seconds but that is hunting. We ended up stalking up to a mixed group Rams and Catalina Goats, and that was not easy. First we had to find them in the rain, then we had to stalk through a muddy cedar laden field to get on them. After a short stock we were able to get into shooting position, when Chaplain Lane put a good shot on a huge Corsican at about 100 yards. The herd scattered but one Catalina goat decided to take a peak back at what had just happened and he took a 6.8 from MedicMan218 from about 110 yards. Great shooting guys that is all I can say. Two shots two animals on the ground. Pretty good start to the day:

After a bite to eat it was time to get after it again. It rained hard on Saturday and not a lot moved in the am. We had a few hogs and some whitetail but nothing like we normally see. So, I got some extra corn and I turned the lane into the yellow brick road for the evening hunt. Finally at about 5:00 after it stopped raining we had a good sounder come in with 25 +/- pigs. I told the guys to pick one out that gave them a clean shot and I would count it down. 3..., 2..., 1 boom boom!!! I could not believe what I saw. That 100 lbs sow took a 30-30 and 6.8 with in a split second of each other. With 25 or more hogs to choose from who would have thought that these guys would shoot the same pig....

One pig down, lets see how many we can get...

We had hogs running everywhere, but a friendly 340 plus inch Red Stag decided he was going to eat some golden goodness, and we watched him for almost an 1 1/2 hours. They are so majestic. Finally, just before dark a group came up the road behind us and MedicMan218 put another one down for the count.

So, when we got done gutting the animals and cleaning up I tell my buddy Jake, "Hey tomorrow is the last day of Teal Season, how much more wet can we get. Want to go shoot some ducks?"

Anyways a couple hours later we head down to Top Flight (http://www.topflighthunting.com) for the last day of Teal Season.

Well it took a little while as the teal were not really flying that well this am. We managed two limits with 5 green wing teal and 3 blue wing teal. It was pretty cool to see the Green Wing work the decoys like it was late in the season. Abel at Top Flight is a good Duck Man.

What a great weekend of hunting. Thank you Chaplain Lane and MedicMan218 for hunting with me. Memories I will have for all time. Thank you so much for what you do for us...

Thanks DB Hunting Ranch for putting up with me and all my Hero Hunts.

Thanks Jake for going Teal Hunting with me on the last day of the season.

What a wet and wild weekend.
