I am looking to purchase a new upper for my S&W for hogs and whitetails. Would you guys recommend the 300 blackout or 6.8 spc?

Thanks in advance

Both, do the job. I would get what shoots cheaper ammo, unless you are going suppressed then 300 blk. No flash, sound follows bullet when super sonic.

I'm running with 300 bc all my night hunts are under 70 yards. Most being 35-40. 6.8 is more universal for longer shots. Just my .02

I have both.

Use my 300 for stalking and when I know shots will be less than 100 yards. My 6.8 for deer hutning and when shots are 100+.

Ammo right now is cheaper for the 300.

I pig hunt for farmers weekly. About 75 taken in the last 6 weeks. All with my 6.8 SPC shooting SSA 95gr TTSX.

Rifle is suppressed w/ 12.5" barrel. Shots are taken from 30 yds out to 150 yds

The 6.8 is the #1 choice for hunting deer and hogs in an AR15

I've had good luck with a 300BO shooting 110gr TTSX handloads.
That being said, I'm selling one of my 300BOs to try a 6.8...

I've been using a 6.8 and can't seem to put it down! Anything from 10 feet to around 200yd so far has just fallen over dead..

I like the 6.8 a lot, taken a hog out to over 400+ yards before, deer , axis, blackbuck, varmints great all around round!!

. The 300 I've only got to shoot one critter (150 class whitetail) and can't wait to try some subsonic on some smaller critters

I stick with AR10s, with 165-180 grain bulletts, an AR10A2, a Bushmaster .308ORC with a 6.5x20x40 Leupold VXIII and for long shots when I like to use irons, my trusty Springfield Armory M1A, though it is not an AR frame it is a .308.

I'll probably go that route one day myself. I like how light and fast handling the AR15 is though compared to the AR10's I've used. I did hold an Armalite once that was super light...just can't remember which model.

Since I can't afford an AR 10 in .308, I use my 6.8 SPC with 110 gr. Hornady V-Max or Sierra Pro Hunters. Both work for me.

What about .243 WSSM? 95 grain at 3,250 fps.

I shoot both the 300 BLK suppressed with subsonics and .223 also suppressed but with 55 gr 3240 fps rounds.

We have had several hunters that have used the 6.8 with no improvement over either of those rounds in insuring a hog's death.

The 300 BLK is a great round suppressed or not, but more expensive that other rounds unless you reload. The .223 is a very light round for hogs unless your ability allows you to strike the head or neck area consistently.

I shoot a 6.8 spc with Hornady 120 gr SST. So far everything I hit is DRT!

My family and I would like to thank every soldier (active or inactive) for their service to this Great Country!
Thank You,

If you are asking me, it's already gone.

Have all parts for the 6.8 upper inbound as I write this.
First pile of parts will hit this week.
Will have to wait a week for the nickel boron bolt carrier and single rail 12" float tube tho...
Also ordered Lee 3 die set and trimmer.

Still shopping for brass.

I use Silver State Armory Brass. Larger case capacity and small rifle primers.
