I've heard a lot of guys say the tika tika call is actually what ducks do when they are coordinating themselves during low level flying, particularly when they want to land.
The guys are right. A "feeding" call by real ducks isn't what must hunters think...it's not the tika tika stuff...

Any suggestions or little tricks that could help? .....Look, when the ducks head your direction, drop the call. No need for all that tika tika mess.....save all that for the contest stage. I couldn't agree more. If the birds are taking a close look at your spread the only thing a fast chuckle can do is eff it up. Tell the dog to mark, flip the safety off and hold still.

I have said it a hundred times on here. The competition bs belongs on the stage in another state. I don't do a rolling feed call because there is absolutely no need for it. Now if you want to talk about a locate chuckle that birds do looking for birds on the ground, then we can talk. That tica tick on my hiney crap does not belong in the woods.

Im a call maker and it has really taught me how the movement of air and sound vibration creates the language. The biggest thing I have found is that it's not about what "words" you say into it it's about airspeed, amount of vocal cord vibration. The feeding call is really simple once you understand what's going on in the mouth and the call. The "tika" is just a word that gets you to have "voice" while you force your tounge up against your palete and releasing short quick small parts of air. And of course a lot of practice. I would get a quality double reed to add to your lanyard they are a lot easier to start with. I really recommend finding someone to help you that can be there in person if you're in the college station area I would be glad to help.

Have any of you guys really listened to say...30 or more mallards feeding? I can see how the rolling feed call can become a little too much but when there's a bunch of ducks doing nothing but eating it sounds like a rolling feed call. We used to raise ducks when I was younger and would throw a bunch of corn on the edge of the water at the tank. Sounds like little machine guns when they all dabble and go at it. It's no different than one person trying to talk compared to a crowd of people talking at the same. It has its time and place. The rolling feed call just sounds like a bunch more ducks doing it at the same time.

Learn clucks, cutts, and a cutting feed for hunting. Don't bother with the rolling feed. Gotta know how to work them though!

How about everyone just post up their version of a feed for Baylor Bear...with no bashing of callers cause this is not a contest just some plain old examples of how you do it and what you feel helped you to learn it.
I'm down for a post.

It's no different than one person trying to talk compared to a crowd of people talking at the same. It has its time and place. The rolling feed call just sounds like a bunch more ducks doing it at the same time. Yup, posted a video of it above you... The farmers in India and such use ducks to till and fertilize their rice fields. They move them section by section around a field after they harvest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAsdde-CPvUGo to 45 sec and that is what ducks feeding in a rice field sounds like. That is the sound a true feeding chuckle is supposed to try replicate. This is why a true feed chuckle only really sounds good when 2-3 guys are doing it. But yes a one man show can sound pretty good when you break it up with cadences. Just look up a Kent Cullum routine. Too many folks take the ticticticticitc that ducks do in flight and think that is the same as a feed.

Best post on this thread...all the rolling crap is not natural in a hunting situation. Say what ya want but the cutts and clucks will lock 'em up just fine. All the rolling machine gun stuff belongs on a stage.

Rick, I appreciate it, took a long while to get a good ducky feed down, still building on it to make it better!
Baylor bears, keep with it an dot get frustrated. It's easy to get frustrated when trying to get things down, best thing to do is put down the call if you do an come back to it later so you don't pick up bad habits. Part of what I enjoy most about running a call is there is an endless amount of things you can learn so its a lot of fun trying to figure new things out! Keep with it an just be patient, it takes some time. I ain't the greatest teacher, but if you need any help shoot me a pm.
