Very cool!!!
Just sent to my dad to buy. Wished I had one of these 2 years ago hunting with my dad, and couldn't find him on a mountain. Turned out just took him longer to get to camp than he thought, but would have been wonderful to know where he was, and that he could call for help if he needed.
We have enough youth. How about a fountain of "smart"?

I just read a long review on them in Cruising World (shooters are also allowed to be sailors) and they weren't very complementary on it's effectiveness on land. It apparently needs clears skies to get a sat signal and it's battery doesn't hold a charge all that long. Perfect for a boat where you can charge it.
I think the idea itself is very cool, especially with the google earth emails and tracking ability. I hope to see new products (and preferably one not on globalstar's network) like this coming out to compete.
That said I am considering getting one. Easiest way to crew for people on off shore races is to always bring the best booze and have useful safety gear.

Not much for these new techno gadgets. Heck there is a tattered old Rand McNally Atlas in my truck that I haven't used many years. Tom-Tom-Go wouldn't be any more use that that. Haven't been lost either, but I'm a man. Cell phones cause more stress and create more emergencies than any other devide ever created. Don't have one of those either. Been way back in the national forest w/ Compass/map/GPS (oops techno/device). But it is an OLD one (circa 2001) Yea know sometimes I want to be lost, (or don't want people to know where I am). No thanks.

I'm buying some Motorola 2-way radios for work to use on the vhf MURS frequencies. No, not the dinky FRS radios. MURS is limited to 2 watts, but on the 1 watt (I've got some 2 watt on order) we get pretty good reception even being inside. Should be enough to reach a hunting partner here in Texas. Colorado would probably be a different story.
We used some FRS last year to talk between stands, but kept getting into conversations with other hunters.
Shoot straight and always carry a 7mm Remington Magnum.

Interesting to look at the yearly price for monitoring and then upgrades and even search and rescue insurance you can get.
I could see how it would be priceless if you needed it.
