Iv got an idea about what I would do but want some others opinios. Heres the situation, Iv got a couple good bucks hitting this feeder pretty regular, one of which I am thinking of taking with my bow this weekend. Iv got a well brushed in ground blind set up 25 yards from the feeder. Only problem is weatherman is calling for a east wind which makes this stand impossible to hunt. Iv got pics to help you understand the situation a little better below. What would you do?

The arrows show the direction the deer usually come in from in years past.

Sometimes your best and only decision is to simply wait until the wind is in your favor.

Besides, given how quickly our weather can change in Texas, that might only mean passing up a morning hunt and hitting it that afternoon.

I haven't checked, but the moon might be better for an afternoon hunt as well.

Well it looks like a hell of a long shot from your bow stand, hope you have been practicing long range!

What is stopping you from brushing in a spot on the other (west) side? What kind of trees, could you add a hang on stand to the west?

Not near as far as it looks in the pics. Its zoomed in quite a bit and to the front of the pen is 20 yards. I usually put corn out by hand in front of the pen and getting deer eating 15-20 yards is pretty easy. All the trees are short bushy usless ceders so a hang on stand is out of the question. That is always my first choice and I had to go with the groundblind because not decent trees are anywhere close.

I have a popup blind that I may put on the west side but with the brush on the west side of the feedpen I would have to put it way to close 10-15 yards which I dont like. Im thinking about putting it in the small ceder across the road on the west side of the pen and then cut a small shooting lane through the ceders to the pen I think that would get me about 20 yards from the pen.

Just back off the feeder and hunt the trails going to it on the downwind side. Sometimes you can kill a deer without it's head in the feed trough. Honest!!! I've seen it done!!!

The feeder is just to get them coming to an area. ^^^ use the trails leading to it. Set up some cams to see what is using those trails.

Poachers and thieves could easily find your land by plugging into a GPS.

ok so wind coming in form east and your deer are coming in form north and south.... humt your stand and you will be fine

Feeder is straight downwind 25 yards from me. Deer gets anywhere close to it and he winds me. For sure can't hunt this stand on an east wind.

Cedars aren't a problem get you a tripod and get it up in the middle of the west side trees. Cedar is a great cover scent as well. Always have a multiple set up for your winds if possible. It may be something as simple as a well brushed in ground blind but always leave your options open. Folks get lazy and hunt the same stand year after year regardless of the wind and will flat out ruin a good spot.

as some said, just find a good spot to the west of the trail north or south of the feeder and sit.....my best bow stand doesn't have a feeder, it overlooks a juction of 3 trails..i always see bucks that never visit the feeders

Tie a pair of dirty socks or worn t-shirt to your stand the week before your hunt. This will put sent in the air and when you are there it will be the same.
Deer don't distinguish scents as danger unless they have been given a reason to relate that scent to danger in the past. They do recognize when a new scent is present where it was not before. Therefore putting your sent in the area before you hunt will allow them to get used to a scent and when you are there they will not know the difference.

I would not hunt it if wind is bad, you might change the pattern of the buck you want.

I would also not set up a hasty blind in the last hour. same could happpen with this too.

Wait for the wind to be right for your setup, then get him!

I do have a tree stand and another feeder about a 1/4 mile northeast from here. Havnt checked that camera yet but those bucks could also be hitting that area. Its set up for a south wind but should be huntable on the east wind so I might give it a try instead.

I'm in the same situation. I only have one bow stand and it is directly east of feeder. May get busted but I'm gonna hunt it anyways. Luckily it's a ladder stand 20ish feet up. Hopefully scent will go over deer. Better yet maybe the wind will change north sooner than Sunday.

Pick a spot away from the feeder and put out a chum pile. I don't like to push the wind on any of my stands, not worth it.

If your set on hunting this spot, i would set up your other pop up in the trees around the Y in the road and corn the road towards your feeder. If you set up in the trees south of the split you could probably still see if anything comes into the feed pen. Just make sure you brush that blind in real good and when you think its good enough, add more.
