I haven't yet, but I usually don't take my smartphone for that very reason.

A simple reply of "busted" will suffice if it has happened to you.

not with the phone..actually shot one last season chasing a doe across a narrow field and it interrupted my conversaion with Seadog & STX.

Now the dang radio is a different story when someone has changed its settings.

I am not a big proponent of phone usage in the stand just because all this technology carp is getting out of hand IMO. Hunting is about getting out and getting away from the d### phone to me.

I say that heavy smartphone users have no way to answer the question about how many opportunities they have missed. Why? How the heck would you know since you are looking down at the dang phone and not actually hunting?

My biggest buck to date came out of the woods 300 yards away,checked a specific little field that often holds does, and turned to go back in the woods. My bullet hit him just as he was going back in. Whole episode took about 8-10 seconds. If I had been jacking around on the phone I would have never known he was there.

Back when I gun hunted from box blinds... maybe. I would never know if I did.

^^^ This is the same for me. I hate my phone enough as it is when I'm not in the woods and go to the woods to get away from it all, But I always bring it in case something happens to me or at the house while I'm out.

I left mine on ring once and got a text as I nervous doe was just about to think about giving me a shot. Didn't work out real well.

I shot a KS doe at 17 yards and her 10pt boyfriend a minute later at 25 yards. I was texting my buddies to let them know I was going to sit tight until I heard them at the truck.
I never sent the message, looked up and had a doe sniffing a single drop of Tinks 69 I had placed on a limb tip at 20 yards. Dropped the phone in my pocket, raised the bow and shot her as she moved on up the trail. While I was eyeing her about 30 yards away I heard the leaves rustle and here comes a P&Y 10 point. He was headed her way so I knocked another arrow and chose a gap between two trees on his path, drew and held while he approached. I grunted, he stopped with his shoulder and ribs in the gap. Made a perfect double lunger, he spun 180 degrees and disappeared into the woods.
The doe still stood 30 yards away with blood pouring out and had never moved.
A few moments later she moved about 5 yards closer and bedded down under a cedar tree where she expired.
I then with trembling hands sent my buddies a text that I had just arrowed two deer a minute apart after seeing nothing all morning.

I text with alot of hunting buddys from the stand.

I never have. My phone is ALWAYS turned off when I hunt.

I bet lack of cell service would be a deal breaker for many here on the Forum when choosing a lease. All other amenities, including trophy quality of the bucks, would play second fiddle to their electronic toys. That would include, in addition to cell phones, wifi and satellite TV.

I'm sure to be in the minority, but I seek escape from the modern electronic age....no cell service, no TV.

If I didn't have cell service at my stand I'd be ticked.

I missed a hog because I fell asleep after staying up too late.

Closest I've gotten to the phone screwing it up for me was audibly laughing when I read last year's OU/Texas score.
