I've got a lot of deer coming in around sunset and they like to hang around to 9-9:30. You guys have any tips for leaving your tree stand without tipping the deer off to your location? I don't mind if they get bumped off of my feed, I just don't want them to know where I'm at. I've heard you can have someone come pick you up in a truck, but that won't be an option.

Any other ideas?

Be far enough away that they won't notice you.

I moved locations this year and its a great location but I am super exposed. Last year I could come and go anytime because they couldn't see me enerting or exiting the stand. This year I can't get out or in if deer are in the area. Sucks cause I'm gonna have to bring my NV spotter scope in the evenings if they are still around after dusk so I can see when they've left. They'll have me pinned in after dark sometimes.

I've had the problem quite a few times. What I've taken to doing now is to snort like an alarmed deer. I can fake it pretty well, and it'll usually work. They don't run off, but they will eventually get nervous and slink off quietly. Just make sure they don't see you when you snort.

Another thing that worked, though I didn't plan for it, was an electronic coyote call. I had deer all around me, but I was coyote hunting. I still didn't want the deer to see me, so I tried a few calls on the Turbo Dog. The howling pack sounds definitely made the deer nervous and they snuck off to the woods.

Just set still till he is gone. Wait him out. If you're a true hunter just be cool, set still and don't worry about getting back till he is gone. Just part of hunting.

I like that idea, I've got a foxpro spitfire but but I think it only works to about 30-40 yards.

What I do is make noise that they don't hear everyday. One, I may tap my wedding ring on the edge of my metal stand, but just lightly. They will get nervous and just move on, not blow out of there. Or I make weird noises with my mouth, like a dying cat or a freaked out squirrel!!!

If your gonna scare them off from noises from your stand, be it a fake snort or a clank of a wedding ring, why not just get down and scare them, they already know where it is coming from.

Move slowly and stay low. They will have a hard time makeing out what you are. I carry "The Doe in a Can" and sound it a few times once on the ground. Had a few deer come and investigate once. They never spooked as long as I kept low.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Because they don't know what it is. When you just climb down and it's dark, they will just stand there most of the time. Then you will give them a good whiff of yourself and then they will know for sure what you are and where you are. I would just rather have them slip off into the night wondering "WTH" than just "exposing" yourself and keeping them from coming back for a few days cuz you blew them out. Works for me.

I walk backwards to my stand. When I leave I walk forward in the same tracks. The deer think I have left and there is never anyone in the stand.

If you are setup in tree limbs, scratch the bark on a tree like something climbing the tree(a natural occurence in the evening). Also if there are turkeys in your area you could do a little turkey talk and limb scraping as it wont take much of a ruckus to move the deer away. Also, maybe you should cut back a little on the amount of feed available in the evening so the deer will move out a little quicker.Good luck.
