Guys,
Short and to the point. As I was putting my dog outside, heard a small tiny squeek. Didnt think anything of it, and as I was coming inside, saw that my cat had ahold of something. Wife sees it, and we take a closer look its a baby rabbit.

the thing does not look too badly injured, unless its internal. Only a small scratch on its hind foot that was bleeding a little bit. I picked it up, its ears perk up when you rub its face, and it tries to move a little bit, but the thing is so young, its eyes are not even open.
I know a few of you on here have found small animals before, such as raccoons, possums, etc.
My kids are already trying to name the dang thing. Can anybody help me out here? What would I need to do to feed it? Do I need to put it under a heat lamp? What about water?
Any advice will help me out. if I had my way, the cat would be eating good tonight, but that option went out the window as soon as my wife saw it.

See if you can find the nest seems to be the best option.

If you MUST keep it.....go to Wal-Mart and they should have some milk replacement or you can use goats milk...and a small dropper or syringe to feed it.
I would look for nest first.

With it being less than 2wks old it will not survive if you just put it back. You have to get it in or near the nest.

X's Our "ex" cat brought one in last year, had plenty of hair and the eyes where open, after a goofle search and some reading, I opted to put it back near where the cat came out of the woods. He had a considerable tear on the rear hip, so some anti biotics and we put him in the tree line.

This rabbit now visits the back yard every day, the skin tear is healed but very visible. The cat is gone.

My dog ate two of them this weekend. My dad said they have tapeworms. Gonna have to de-worm him,I guess. Anyone know anything about this?

I ran over a nest while cutting one of our pastures. My dog also caught and killed the doe. Went to TSC and got some milk replacer (goat) and fed them with an eye dropper. Only two out of the four survived. My dad ended up building a hutch (stupid) and after they were weaned went and collected things every day they'd eat in our area (again...stupid).. at about 6 months we let them go. They hang around the house now but do great on their own. Pretty surprised they made it and survived on their own. We handled them very little though.

A vet friend said odds are they'd die. So don't get your hopes up if you decide to keep it.

I'll send you some, how many do you need? I'm guessing just two, a male and a female, because they breed like, well, you know. bang

Used to have the same problem with our cat. I always just let her keep them since they were too young to survive and she was just doing what cats do. This is a hunting forum isn't it??

BTW, she always used to start eating them at the ears - just like we do on chocolate easter bunnies.

If you try to put it back in the nest wipe your scent off with vanilla extract. Mother won't take it back in if it has human scent.

Oh good grief. Throw it as far as you can or let your cat finish it off and tell your kids it ran away or its dad the Easter Bunny came to pick it up.

Wild rabbits don't have a good survival rate as it is, why do you think they breed so often? Even people who rescue animals for a living have a tough time with baby rabbits, so try your best and let the kids have a good learning experience.
