Hello,
I have decided to join the bow hunting crowd. I have shot archery quite a bit but never hunted. Can anyone recommend me a place within an hour or so from Austin area? I would be looking for a place to shoot a bow/ get my draw length measured/ etc.
Thanks for the help!!

You have the one in Georgetown that is supposed to be really good. Double G I believe is the name.

You've got two choices for Pro Shops in Austin area:
1. Double G 2. Austin Archery Country
I find it easier to get to Archery Country, but have visited Double G and been treated right.

My vote is for archery country. I recently bought a Mathews Helim from them and was well taken care of. I also just ordered my wife a Misson Menace last night. They are pretty busy, but they will take care of you.
They also have a ready to go Menace(not positive) package for 550. Might be a craze, but its a Misson bow set up ready to hunt.
They are having a big party to kick off hunting season this weekend, Saturday. They got a deal that if you buy a Helim, Jewel and maybe another kind of Mathews, you get entered in a drawing to win a new Mathews every year for 5 years. Basically trade your old one in for a new one every year.
To be fair, i have not been to Double G.

A month ago, they gave me a price of about $600 for a Mission Riot package that included a wrist release.

For a range only (after you are set up) you might also look at Copperhead Creek in Marble Falls. I set up a range on the back 40, so I've never been to Copperhead.
There used to be a range on City Park Road off Loop 360 in Austin, but I don't know the specifics on that one.

Double G is the main distributor of Bowtech.
Archery Country has Matthews.
I believe the prices are set by the Manufacturer, but the add on are where the shop can deal.
For the most part, you need to visit both shops and try the bows out to see what you like.
I was going to get Mission Endeavor from Archery Country and stumbled on a deal on a Quest bow.
