I'm still having trouble finding a new 25-06 with a wood stock. And not I just learned that the Rem 700 bdl and cdl in 25-06 has been discontinued. I give it 5 years until you have to get a custom made in order to get a wood stocked rifle.

go to gunbroker.com and search under 25/06. Lots of them.

Buy a well kept and good looking used 30-06 or 270 and rebarrel it. You did say you wanted a new one, but used might be cheaper, even with the barrel cost. And, you can get a custom barrel and an overall tuneup on the rifle at the same time - giving you a great shooter.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye shows to have a 25-06 on their website.
Browning X-Bolt Hunter also comes in 25-06.
I would bet Buds has both of them.

Buy a Marlin X7 in .25-06 (~$320 blue, $420 stainless), junk the plastic tupperware stock, then order the Marlin-made wood laminate stock ($130). Pillar-bedded, nicely-checkered, and Pachmayr recoil pad all with factory fit. Got two like this (.25-06 and .270) and they will both shoot well under 1" moa.

Or, order the Walnut stock from Boyd's ($110).

I highly doubt you can buy a complete rem 700 and have it rebareled for the cost of buying a new one in the desired caliber. Most people selling good quality used guns in good condition want as much for them as they are new.

I dont think the problem is not being able to find a wood stock, it is finding a wood stock in a 25-06. Like it or not the 25-06 is kinda odd ball. Yes I know it is a well known loved round that has a dedicated following, but it will never touch the realm of popularity like the other big names, 270 win, 308, 3030, 300 winmag, 30-06, or 243 etc..

That is so true. The problem with 700 customs in general is that it becomes so pricey so fast because you have to have it done by a gunsmith.

Remington caught heck with some buy backs of less popular calibers so give them a year or so and they'll probably do a run of them.

I'm not sure I would include the 300 win mag in with these other popular calibers. Not hating on it but it's just nowhere near the others in popularity.

Probably not, but in the (in my opinion) intended use for the gun, larger game, elk bear etc, there are more 300 win mags out there than 300 wby's, 300 rum's, 30-378 wby's, 300wsm's, or 300 rem ssm's.

What was the issue causing the buybacks? Never really heard about it.

they're outlawed.
texas is phasing out all
wood stocked blued rifles
over the next five years.
starting next year, they are
phasing out all rifles that
do not have "magnum" in the
chambering description, starting
with the westernmost and southernmost
counties.
mismatching cammo clothing will also
be affected.

There are at least a half dozen CDLs in wood available on Gunbroker. Find yourself an FFL to handle the transaction and get one. I even saw a Vanguard with a wood stock available.

for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype
