Friend's grandmother owns property with house in Missouri. Friend, grandmother and myself all live in Texas. Friend and I want to go deer hunt on property. No idea how to go about getting license, permit, etc. Resident or non resident since they own the property? Anyone have experience hunting in Missouri? What do we need to do?

Pretty sure you'll need a non resident license. I would start with the Missouri department of wildlife website.

Non resident tag is $225. Good for any deer, but you are only allowed 1 buck for the entire gun season. So if you tag a doe with that tag, you are hosed. You can also buy a non resident archery tag for $225 good for one buck per season.
You can buy unlimited doe tags for $25 each.
You do not need a regular hunting license to buy a deer tag. Daily hunting license is $11 per day up to 7 days. Then you must buy a full season license which is $80 (non resident).
Rifle season runs for 10 days. This year Nov. 10-20. Then they have a week long doe season, then a 10 day muzzleloader season. If you do not shoot a buck during rifle season, you can wait until muzzleloader season and hope to get one then.
The actual landowner can get tags if the property is over 75 acres. I want to say they are relatively cheap, maybe resident cost. Check me on that, MDC website is fairly easy to navigate.
Most counties have an antler restriction, but not all. Must have 4 on one side minimum. Most of the southern counties do not have antler restrictions.
Big deer up there and they taste so much better (at least where we hunt). All grain fed for the most part. A yearling will field dress 90-110 lbs and a nice buck can dress out over 200 lbs.
What part of the state is the property?

I hunt public property and have been for ten years. Usually see a lot of deer depending on weather. The opening weekend is usually timed right for rut. If your in the right county buy the extra doe tag.

Landowner can get cheap tag if it's over TWENTY-FIVE acres. My mom owns 28 acres there and paid only a couple of dollars for an online tag last season, which allowed my 8 year old son to hunt for pretty dang cheap!!! Wish they had a daily or 3-day non-resident license. That $225 annual is a beating!!!

If no family has been up to check things out in a while go early! People up there do not think twice about hunting property without permission. Northern MO is a lot of fun. Lots of deer and lots of good deer due to the antler restriction. Bad thing is lots of broke up bucks.

The $225 is alot less than what Texas gets ($315). Actually the land owner (over 5 acres) can get FREE tags to use on their property only- it all depends on the # of acres owned as to how many tags you get. You will need a non resident tag. If the landowner does not legally reside in the State, they will need a non resident tag also. Just owning property does not make you qualified for resident fees. I own 40 acres in Central Missouri and legally reside in Missouri so I can buy resident tags. As mentioned above most counties have an antler restriction (4 point on one side) and allow unlimited antlerless tags. There are a few counties in North Central Missouri that have lifted the restriction because they have a problem with CWD in the area so they are encouraging bucks to be taken. I know my costs are $17 for the ANY DEER tag, and $7 for every antlerless after that. I usually buy the ANYDEER and one antlerless PLUS I get one FREE antlerless tag as the landowner. All permits can be bought online at this link: https://www2.mo.wildlifelicense.com/start.php

Does Missouri still make you put that orange sticker on your weapon?

Does Missouri still make you put that orange sticker on your weapon? For turkey season, yes.

I have hunted MO several times. I can say that I like it. I hunted Pike County. There are some bruisers up there and like stated earlier, the meat is outstanding. I have since crossed the river and now I hunt in Pike County, Il. I wouldnt hesitate on hunitng MO again if I had a free place like that to hunt.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

You can buy your tags at Wal-Mart. Guess I will get out a little cheaper on doe tags this year. But the Buck tag cost more. N/R doe tag was $80.00 last year.
Born to hunt and fish.
