Good luck! It's pretty dry out that way. I don't know about ducks but there are plenty of white wing doves in that area!

I have deer hunted Sabinal-Uvalde for the last 25 + years. North of hwy 90 2-3 miles around Knippa is a bunch of cultivated land. Some years there are 1000's of wintering Specklebellies. They are easy to scout and track down. I have asked permission from landowners and they could care less (as long as it does bother deer hunters). It is a lot of trouble for 1 bird limit.

BTW, Ulvade used to have a helluva HS football program. I used to go watch them play many years ago against Kerrville Tivy. It was a great rivalry.

Find stock tanks and you will find ducks even around Uvalde. Deer hunt North of hwy 90 between Uvalde and Bracketville and have stock tank that holds ducks - gadwal, teal, pintail, mallard and few divers. Too bad rancher doesn't allow us to hunt that tank or within 500 ft of tank as it interferes with his cattle getting to water. Some of those ag fields north of Uvalde will hold a few snows and sandhill crane in addition to the specks mentione in other post.

Drive to Del Rio and Lake Amistad will hold ducks, some public walk in spots.

Good Luck!

I've had some historic teel, widgeon and pintail shoots on ponds and creeks around Bracketville (between Uvalde and Del Rio). Sometimes hard to find ranches willing to let you hunt during deer season but you would be surprised. Don't be scared to knock on some doors. You'll find some spots if your presistant enough.

Drive up to Concan, rent two tubes (one for you and one for your cooler), grab your shotgun and float the Frio River.

If you don't see any ducks, at least you will have fun on the river. laugh

In all seriousness though, there are a lot of ducks out West. The problem is that the majority of them are on private land sitting on stock tanks. And deer hunting rules in that area so not too many landowners are willing to have duck hunters shooting up a storm during deer season.
