Just retrofitted an old 30 gal barrel into a free choice protein feeder. What kind of protein are you using? Are you using a blend? I'm in east Texas.

Prolly most use record rack or antler max. I would start it with a mix of 50/50 corn/protein

U can also find a local mill that makes their own, it will be cheaper than a name brand

What kills me is that I used to feel like I was spending a little extra for healthier deer. Now the corn is as high as protein. That said, I usually go 50/50 this time a year and eventually up the corn. In terms of brand, I just get th 18% from local feedstore.

Well Corn is a filler and type of Sugar Substitute in animals feed..It is mostly Starch & Sugar..and an attractant..Protein from soybeans on up will usually run 21 to 26% and requires some-
thing in it to make it attractive to the animals to encourage their consumption....And we as hunters these past 25 to 30 yrs
have been some of the reasons that Corn is expensive..not just
the Drought..It used to be only a Starch and Sugar filler in feed
and was about$2 or $3 per 100lb sack when I was a kid..DD

I go to the Lone Star on Front and Glenwood. I all stop at the one in Jacksonville on the way to the lease.

Just ordered some MG deer blend from the local feed store in Manvel. Going to put up the protien feeder tomorrow. I bought some cheap protien from academy to fill for right now until order comes in next week. Will post pictures of the new set up.

Bought some antler max in Bandera yesterday. Over $14 a bag. Deer are going to start eating something else from now on. Pi**ed me off. I told them that that was the same feed the last time I bought it for $12 and they had not got any in since then. They just smiled. I will get the last smile at least from them.

IMO pen is way to small. Really not much area for deer to jump into. Not that they won't but you will never have many deer in the pen at one time. You can only feed one deer from one side of your protein feeder due to it being to close to the fence.

Once we are able to get the hog population under control my plan was to move the spin feeder out of the pen. I do think it is a little tight in there. Thanks.

Think the spin feeder would throw the corn out of the pen right now. Figure the hogs are thinking the same thing...

Yeah, some corn does throw outside the pen but not to much. Since I have the protien I programmed it to the lowest RPM and about 4 secs.
