I find it to be worse than despicable when a business like Tractor Supply is FULLY AWARE of FDA warnings and recalls and still goes ahead and promotes dawg treats that are known to sicken or even kill pets ... http://www.tractorsupply.com/waggin-train-chicken-jerky-tenders-16-oz-bag-1001017http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/05/23/fda-nearly-1000-pets-sickened-by-china-made-dog-treats/They put these items on sale at 33% or 50% off to help get rid of the inventory. To Hell with the dawgs and their owners, right? I asked the local TSC store if they were aware of the warnings and was told yes. Why are you still selling them then? "Management told us to put them on close out." I e-mailed TSC corporate offices about the problem and sent several follow-ups. They failed/refused to respond.

I don't think it's just them however, as I think many business's these days only look to the bottom line...and it's not always a sign of the times or the economy...I've been in business myself for over 30 yrs and have noticed a lot of my recent competitors still try to oversell their products and then fail to may service calls on them...Don

I got into it with TSC years ago over a well pump I got from 'em. A part was missing from the box (that was opened) and they said I did it. The finally ordered the part and it took almost 2 weeks for it to come in. 2 weeks without water at the house did not make me a happy camper. I wouldn't take anything from them if it was free. They don't care anything about customer satisfaction. So I don't give a rip about them. I hope they go out of business.

I'm seeing more and more of this where they are concerned. I used to think of them as a convenience, but now I don't feel it's worth it to give them my money. They are getting worse and worse and I notice employee turnover at the ones near me is increasing, too. Shame. Big business in this day and age sure has gone on the down slide.

I buy my food from a local feed store whose owner cares as much about his dogs as I do about mine.

I've had both bad and good experiences with TSC. Most of the bad ones are usually attributable to an inept employee or one with an attitude. The thing I won't stand for is some "youngster" (under 40) who juts their chin out and gets obnoxious when you challenge something they've just told you as being incorrect. However, and in this case, it's a very different matter.
Any retail business can receive defective product from its suppliers, foreign or domestic. Once it's learned that a product is defective, especially when it involves the health and safety of the customers or their animals, then that product must be taken off the shelf immediately and not sold. Maybe even an effort undertaken to locate recent purchasers of the items and warn them.
When a business decides it's more proitable or expedient to continue selling the defective products and put a special sale on them to get rid of stock on hand more quickly ... then that's a business that puts their profits ahead of it's custmoers well being. What was most disturbing to me was that the cashier and store manager were both aware of the recall on the product and justified it's continued sale "because that's what management told us to do." In a crimnal matter that would be an "accessory" and would make one as guilty as the perpetrator.

In my business, if we have a defective product it's returned to the manufacturer and 99% of the time it's taken care of. Warranty, replaced product, etc..... Why in the heck doesn't TSC just send the crap back to the manufacturer? Makes no sense to me.
No bad days hunting

A lot of business owners/managers think that taking care of the business's bottom line is good for the business. Wrong. If they would take care of their customers first, the bottom line would take care of itself. Always has and always will.

Just re read there is no recall. That being said when we heard of the problem we had just baught our second or third package, we threw it out but to our knolage our dog was not affected by it.
So as the devils adv. They can not send back the inventory but have chosen to mark it down and close it out to the people who will still feed it to their pets.

check the link the OP provided its in there! I hate China too...but there is no re-call...here is a quote from the article. "Despite repeated tests, however, FDA scientists have been unable to detect any toxin responsible for the animal illnesses, officials said." Q: What do the FDA statements say about chicken jerky treats? A: On Nov. 18, 2011, and again on March 9, 2012, the FDA issued a chicken jerky treat update regarding a possible association with illness in dogs. Both updates clearly state that after extensive testing, scientists have been unable to determine a definitive cause for the reported illnesses. The FDA has been quite clear about this. According to the FDA, “Samples collected from all over the United States have been tested for a wide variety of substances and to date, scientists have not been able to determine a definitive cause for the reported illnesses.” In addition, FDA continues to emphasize that some of the reported illnesses may be the result of causes other than eating chicken jerky. Both FDA notices include a reminder that dog treats should be fed as treats, not as a pet’s sole source of nutrition. The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends feeding jerky treats in small quantities, and notes this is especially In addition, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) previously has reported that any association between dog illnesses and chicken jerky may be the result of dogs (primarily small dogs) consuming treats in excess of normal or recommended levels.
