I am sure this is a ridiculous question for most avid duck hunters, but I am not big into this yet so bare with me. Lol...

Is there a way to retrieve a duck out of a deep pond without swimming or having a dog?

On my lease I have to pass a huge pond on the way/from my stand that is covered up in ducks. Was thinking about taking a shot gun a few times and trying my hand at getting a few ducks, but would hate to shoot soemthing I couldn't get too with a dog and I definitely wouldn't want to swim to it.

Just curious if there is some type of retrieval system out there or if I should throw a fishing reel in the cart with me with a top water bait.

Thanks,

if its a small pond, the wind works great...If there is wind. If no wind, I have seen others post about using a fishing rod with large topwater lure. Some also use a Deep water retrieval device. Basically a device on the end of a rope to toss out past the duck and pull back in. Some use a long telescoping pole (golf ball retriever) with a hook on the end.

you bet. i have never tried it..but it sounds like it would work very well. I have seen others on here post about it so im sure it works great. That would be my first choice out of all the above to try.

I have used a fishing rod with a Rebel Popper with some success. However, at a spot last year on a lake near Ft W, something came out of the water and got my duck. I think it might have been a big gar. Made a good story to tell my buddies.

Top water lure works. I also use my robo-duck. Have one of the remote control decoys...tied a 2nd to it to slow it down (goes to fast alone)and use the line between the 2 to "snag" the floaters. The robo-duck gives action to the spread and makes for fast retrieves.

Always the option of continuing to shoot the duck at the same angle until it reaches the shore. Now, I didn't say it was good for the meat....but it works.

Pick your shots so they fall on the land, or in shallow water. If there is a lot of ducks, I'm sure it is shallow that is what puddle ducks like.
