I kill hogs 365 days a year, right now, infested with fleas, ticks and parasites...only time of year I might eat part of one wouuld be a ham or backstrap when it is real, real cold. I hear people on this site talkin bout bacon, ham etc. yall can eat em, I ain, I just kill em, drag em to gut pile...the rest of yall.....ENJOY....I know a man, a few years ago, gutted a hog and had a cut on his hand, got some blood disease and almost die....yall get after it.

Haven't run across that and we kill hogs year round. I'd have chucked it too though! I generally won't keep one unless its pretty much perfect and hasn't been dead too long-especially in the heat. I guess we've been lucky to have healthy pigs! At least till they develop lead poisoning...

The 2 I have killed in the last couple months didnt have a single tick on them. Butchered 1 left the other. They even smelled better than my 2 dogs.

X2, I've butchered hundreds if not thousands of hogs in my life year round and never found a worm. Not saying it's not possible, but I've never found one. Ticks & fleas yes, some have them some don't. They normally get cleaned anyway, I just soak down in skeeter spray before I go to work on them & have only gotten a tick on me one time. To your question....yes hogs are good to eat any time of the year. You'll find that some people are hard headed about this subject just like some are stuck on when to eat rabbits.

We kill and eat them year round. If I do run across one that is suspect (worms in the meat, or anything else I'm not comfortable with)then I'll pass; but so far, that has never happened.
