I know it is a super long shot but I am looking for my Grandpa's Walther P38. I have paper work on it where he brought it back from the war. Serial number 2729. We think he traded it off in the 50's in Tulia, TX. Does anybody know how to look up serial number to see where and when it was made?

They were made by a couple different companies indicated by a letter code. They are generally stamped with mfg. year and can have a serial number block letter code as well(a, b, c, etc.). It's going to be a tall order to find the same one regardless, but even harder if you don't have any other info.

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa, not kicking and screaming like his passengers.
