Hey guys, I have been actively hunting dove out in west texas for awhile now but was curious about sling shot shooting them in city limits. I always get an itching around mid week to go shoot some dove, but of course dont have time to get out on the land.

My question: In my peer's opinion, is it unsportsmanlike to shoot dove on the fence in my backyard with a sling shot? Obviously a pellet gun would be no sport what so ever, but with a slingshot?

There is no danger of hitting anything but thick trees should I overshoot the fence.

Let me know guys!
ML

check city ordinance maybe... and if you have any neighbors that will get upset, you will likely get a visit with the lawman... i wouldn't think it would be illegal tho.

call a game warden, or a TPWD office and speak to a warden there...

Not sure if you can shoot a migratory bird with anything less than a .410....

as mentioned above, I think you have to use a shotgun for migratory birds. However, I remember seeing guys shooting ducks with bows and arrows so it seems confusing.

I don't think that would be considered a legal shotgun.... But you could probably shoot all the ring necks you want

it's illegal to use a slingshot or a pellet gun to kill a migratory bird, so be careful not to drop them on your neighbors side of the fence!

It is apparently illegal, so I would give it the thumb's down.
As far as sportsmanlike? Also the thumbs down for me. I live on a big creek, out of the city limits and have dove in the trees.
I don't shoot them because to me, there's no sport in it.

just me.

make sure you don't have a bird feeder sitting in your tree. ;-)

No idea on the legality issue but IMO it would be very sporting to take dove on the wing with a slingshot. Sitting on a fence...it would have to be a homemade slingshot fired backwards at no less than 20 yards.

Like others said... just keep it to yourself and you can pop them all day. If you wanna shoot dove in your backyard with no noise then get some.

OMG, this is the best slumber party ever!

I definitely answer this tread. In the state of Texas you can NOT hunt Migratory Game birds with anything but a shotgun. Here is the text from the Texas Outdoor annual "a shotgun is the only legal firearm for hunting migratory game birds" This was found on page 59 under Means and Methods.

Be safe and do it the right way. Hunt them with a shotgun and do not make hunters look bad by taking these shortcuts.

"a shotgun is the only legal FIREARM" doesn't mean no bow/arrow.

Not saying I would or even that I'm capable just saying that particular statement doesn't say it all.
