So I just got my Remington 870 back from being dipped and I am having a few problems with it. First the action is so tough that it takes a lot of force to pump the shotgun, a little oil has been helping that a little bit. But now when i load shells in the magazine the follower gets stuck once half of the second shell is loaded. So I can even take the follower out. Any ideas or solutions? or should I just take it to a gunsmith? Thanks in advance for your help guys!

Sounds like whoever dipped it. dipped parts that should not have been done, like the inside of the tube, Action parts, etc.

I would start with asking the person/place that did the dipping.

Have to agree with kmon1. Might need to take off some of the "dip" that the dip applied.

I sent it to him with out the action parts, but the magazine spring and follower were still inside. I wonder if the chemicals got into the magazine tubeand got a little dirty and its causing the cheap remington follower to get stuck. I've also been told that with the action the chemicals they use dry the metal out so bad that you have to give it a really good cleaning and oiling to get it back to normal.

Action parts still have to mate up with the action, there are tolerances that need to be met. If the inside of the action was coated I would not be surprised in the least of it being hard to cycle. Working the action a lot will probably help that.

For the tube I bet some get in it or on parts in it and are catching/binding.

Had a new 870 express that was very hard to cycle, lots of friction. One trip to the goose fields around Knox City and that blowing sand the thing now cycles smooth as the 1955 Wingmaster that was my Dads.

I think I am going to get a hammer and a rod and try to beat the follower out and give the magazine tube a very good cleaning and probably replace the follower with a better aftermarket one. Thanks for your help kmon1. I really appreciate it.

That is a better solution than taking a hammer to it. up
