Well I wanted to do a hog hunt this coming Saturday and got his number from a member then it rang a bell. I called him just now and talked to him. He wants $200 for a full day and that is 2 hogs and any Axis or Fallow deer seen are free to shot. I am going to meet him Thursday after work to go look at the place. Will keep you updated.

I'm afraid you'll be waisting $200, but good luck. A lot of bad things said about him on this website. I think he got bit by a rattlesnake last year and lost part of his foot, I guess karma cuaght up with him.

Agreed. Can't say he didn't have a fair warning. I'd avoid that guy like the plague.

I too have been taken by Ken,booked a hog hunt drove 10 hrs to Hays county out of 4 hunters 1 hog was seen.had a friend book back for turkey season because we seen a lot of turkey while we were there after my buddy give him a deposit for opening weekend he called Ken back close to season to get things lined out and Ken told him that there was a wedding at the ranch opening weekend and he would have to come at a later time, well the rest of that phone conversation is to foul to type and ended up my buddy lost his deposit. while we were there we pulled up to the gate and Ken got out and walked over and picked up a shed, come to find out another friend went there and he done the same thing obviousley he was placing the sheds by the gate and picking them up when he had hunters to try to sell deer hunts on the place.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

I am not going to book after reading on other sites also. But there is a member on here that hunts his place on RR12 and has good luck he says. I am just going to make the drive and go up to DB ranch again.

I've hunted with ken several times on some property he used to lease off the blanco river. It was great hunting actually. I've referred people him who he put out near Dripping over a mud puddle when we said they would be hunting dove over water. Needless to say they got skunked and had a bad time.

I've seen his name come up numerous time over the years, usually bad. I wish him the best and that he is able to run his business better. And I wish his hunters even more success. Regardless, I can't recommend him anymore.

Just and FYI I told the original poster not to sign up on his lease. Dereck never got his monety back and this guy is still advertising I really hope he gets his one day!

This sort of thing happened to us in Hondo about 13 years ago.

At the time had a small commercial general contracting business in Dallas. My dad called a guy who had listed an ad in the DMN for day hunts in Hondo. The guy said he was covered up in bucks and hogs. He said by this time (mid November) there had already been 40 bucks killed. This should have been the first red flag. He said each hunter would be allowed one buck, one doe, and as many hogs as we could shoot. So a couple of weeks later around eight of us loaded up and head down there as excited as eight guys can be.

We got there around 3pm and after we got camp set up one of the guys noticed a couple of deer in a 100 acre field that bordered our camp. Before it was over there was over 200 deer in that field. Needless to say we were jacked up since all of us wanted meat and weren't really worried about horns.

The next morning we were required to go into this guys meeting room in his house for a briefing. He pulled out his old tape recorder and told us these were the rules and to listen carefully. When he pushed play it was a recording of him stating we were only allowed to shoot bucks. No does! There was actually a penalty for does. I think ti was $100 but can't remember exactly. I believe hogs were $25-$50 each. HE would pay $25 per coyote. My dad was pissed!

My son, who was 11 at the time, was hunting with me so he was going to be the shooter out of my stand. Early first morning we saw a little button buck and told him to pass. That was the only deer my group saw the entire trip.

A day later, the ranch hand came to pick us up and another hunter had shot that button buck. Another guy had shot a spike but that was it.

Long story short, we were had. We were told one thing on the phone and another when we got down there. We learned our lesson with day hunts that are listed in the newspaper. Our business is much larger now and have now had our own lease since that year.

Oh, he also said when he collected our money it was cash only. This was something else he didn't tell us so all we had was a company check. The guy said he would take the check but asked not to send him a 1099. Needless to say, he got a 1099 in the mail.

Put my name on the list. I was jipped about 4 years ago I think. The guy really talked the place up. Showed up, there were two other groups. We were the lucky ones, shot a doe, the only other living creature we saw. I remember seeing all the trash and thinking that can't be good for this hunt. When he picked us up and all the hunters met up, a lot of unhappy faces all the way around.

That is jacked up.
I know some guys that were working on a lease near San Marcos this year and got screwed. Sounds like the same guy but they are not letting him get off so easy and are suing for breach of contract.
