 How do I keep the corn cobs out of my feeder?

So I evidently bought some corn with trash in it and a corn cob was able to get into a place where it stopped the flow of corn to the spinner plate.
QUESTION: What do you guys do (besides buy clean corn) to strain or filter that junk out of the corn?

Where do I find 1/4" mesh? I had considered chicken wire, but think the holes will be too large.

Where do I find 1/4" mesh? I had considered chicken wire, but think the holes will be too large. It's called 'Hardware Cloth' or simply Rabbit wire.

My F-I-L's lease they made a frame to fit over barrels with a 1/4 mesh screen.
