Is a teal hen call worth having on the lanyard even if just for early teal? If so, what brand you guys like? Don't want to spend a ton on it. I have a whistle but wanted to maybe go even further on the teal call.

Primos, haydels, duck commander etc. They all work good. I only use them in early teal. Whistle calls work like a champ during big duck season for teal.

Many will tell you that you can get the same sound from a mallard hen call, but I dot think it sounds as good.

Man, now i realize i am an even worse caller than I thought. I blew my Haydel teal call at two groups last early season and BOTH times got the same result.....birds flew the opposite way as fast as their little wings could carry them. I chocked it up to teh call but apparently it was the guys using it! I stopped calling after that and then killed a bunch of teal.

Don't waste your money on one, you can replicate the sound on almost any normal duck call. An plus, a mojo works on them 10x better

Don't limit your abilities to just staring at a machine. I swear the mojo will be the death of our heritage.

I've used several bwt calls and the cuttdown is by far the best. It's a a small acrylic call with a metal Reed. I've had mine for 10+ yrs with no problem and I'm pretty sure they are under $20. Listen to ducks early and u can always hear the teal. It's a much higher pitched shrill call. I use mine all yr on teal. it's one of 3 calls I carry( rNT quack addict mallard, duck commander mallard drake- for pintail , widg and the cuttdown. ).

I don't use a Teal call unless they are not reacting to the mojo from a distance. Then just a whistle here and there if they turn and are looking at the spread. Have tried to use a Mallard call in the past but it takes practice to make it sound good on a steady basis due to the high backpressure...and adrenaline.

I've got the primos BWT call and i'm convinced by it. i've turned teal on a dime with it. even when big duck hunting when the birds get a little call shy they seem to really respond to a teal call
