Is there a standard torque to use for tightening ring screws? Don't want to strip any thing or affect the scope if that's possible but also don't want anything to slip. If it matters, I'm using leupold rings. Not sure if they are steel or aluminum. Thanks for any help.

Splash it depends on the manufacturer.
Some manufacturers have specific torque reccomendations.
But I typically torque my ring tops at 16 inch/pounds and I will torque my bases into the receiver at 16 inch/pounds as well.

Warne Sells a little T-15 Torque wrench for theirs. It is preset at 25-Inch/Pound. Leupold says 15-17 if I recall.

Wheeler Fat Wrench is a good tool to have ^^this^^ and low hold Locktite. Skyler, wow! Guess I'm more skeered than you! Thoe Badger rings you sold me got 25 in/lbs on the rings and 65 in/lbs to the base. That's their recommeded torque specs and I was glad to see it. They're clearly built to withstand punishment. I've had ring screws and winage screws come loose before so I like em on tight as a frog's.....

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll start at 16 and after a couple of range sessions if no movement call it good. Just don't want to over do it.

Is 16 inch-pounds a typical type number?
I'm certainly not questioning any legitimacy here, it just seems low to me. Honestly, my guess is not based on any real knowledge as I've never torqued a single scope to any spec, just by feel. But i did finally get a Wheeler torque wrench and it goes up to 60 in-lbs.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

FWIW - I ended up using 20in/lbs this morning. Went to the range and shot 2 boxes of .308. Didn't see any movement that I could tell.

I've mounted many of bases and rings. I always use the elbow allen wrench and finger/hand tighten them. I use the short side on the screw and hold the long side to tighten. Get it snug, but not too snug where you strip out the screw. This will hold very well. I have no idea how many inch lbs it is! The only thing I torque are my action screw.

What I ment, is that is a good, universal torque setting. Those Badger's are tough.
