ok, this sounded as ridiculous to me when I first heard it as it probably will to you, but there is a conversation going on in another forum about how some guys get their clothes smokey smelling before they go hunting.Whenever I hog hunt I keep my clothes as scent free as possible. I realize that it would probably cover human odor but wouldnt a smoke smell transfer to DANGER in the hogs point of view?

My friend in Georgia always has a fire burning near his house, so the animals are used to it. When we hunt up there we stand in the smoke to cover our smell. But if it is not a normal smell in the area, I don't think it would work.

I saw this on some forum thread before as well. I can't imagine it working, however, I bought some of those Tink's smokiing rut sticks on a clearance rack. I'm not sure that will work either.

I keep my clothes in a cedar box year round. There's lots of cedar where I hunt.
If there is a fire (...smoke) by a house where animals associate people, one would think it would work for the negative. Obviously, it's better than human scent and could be used in an emergency, but there is lots of good stuff (both natural and store-bought) out there.

I have heard or read that deer are curious of a smoke smell and will check it out but don't know about pigs. I have had deer run straight at me from the downwind side while I was smoking on stand. I would think pigs would hightail it since thats all they have going for them really is smell.

Yes and no. For mature domestic hogs not so good. For young hip and cool wild hogs, smoke is a very effective attractant. I hear they get the munchies afterwards. Couldn't resist.

there are some oil wells on our place with some nice size wallows up next them. you can definetly tell where the hogs come on and off the property because the trees are rubbed black. those things stink and smell like diesel so smoke may not be a bad idea.

Tinks all season some sticks work well, plus they keep the bugs away from ya!

I had a deer walk up to w/in 10 yards of my brush groundblind sunday am. Had camped out and made a fire the night before. The wind was in my favor, and I changed clothes, but still 10 yards was close. No hogs though.
