But the dog won't stay home...I'm afraid I'm going to have to cut him. I hate the effect that it seems to have on most dogs, and he's the most laid back, easy going two year old lab on the planet, but he runs off every dang time we leave. He heads for a house about a mile and a half down the road that has a female catahoula with a litter of pups. Is there any other way to keep him at home?

I don't want to lock him up forever, but I don't want him to lose his drive either.

I used to have the same issue. I installed one of the invisible fences and it never happened again. He doesn't even wear the collar these days and still will not cross the boundaries.

Honestly, neutering him won't stop his wandering. I have one that's neutered, he still likes to go visit all the neighbors and play with their dogs. Your best option is kennel him or the invisible fences.

I had the PetSafe in ground where I used to live. I only had fence on three sides.

Neither of my dogs would get near the boundry after I trained them to it. But neither was a "hard head", you might say.

Of course they won't work for females that aren't neutered.
