Hey Thanx Yall and Deerdown 99 - gosh where do I begin? For one this is a handmade knife not a factory made blank! and I've built over 700 of em so it's built with the skill that comes from experience. Next I use only the best materials out there - I used Alabama Damascus on this baby from you guessed it Alabama not Pakistan! Then the Mammoth Tooth is from a supplier who is also a Guild member and is considered the best fossil material supplier in the world and he aint cheap. The materials alone on this particular knife cost me way over the money you threw out there. Next I'm certified by the Knifemakers Guild and the Professional Knifemakers Association which means the best of the best knifemakers in the world have inspected my work and found it to be of the highest quality and handmade. If you've ever owned a high quality handmade knife then you understand the difference. Most factory knives take about an hour to heat treat - mine go through a three day process with a Sub - Zero Quench and a Triple draw Temper. Also there is how unique they are you see these are my designs! So they come with a certificate of authenticity. Then there is the filework and this really does a lot to seperate a handmade knife from a factory one! Then there's the Mosaic Pins and there's the handmade custom sheath made by my wife Erica. There's a lot more time and effort that go into a high quality handmade custom knife than most people think! Another plus is everywhere I go people see that I'm wearing something different on my side and ask to see her! Well that's my rant! LOL!! Thanx, Chops

I've found that if heat treated properly it holds up wonderfully! Because it's Carbon Damascus it also sharpens well too! One of the benefits is that the 416 layers of metal creates a micro serrated edge so she even gets better with use! This topic is the main reason you want her made from American high quality Damascus as Pakistan Damascus is made from inferior raw metals that lose their edge much more quickly. So two issues first is the quality of the steel and second is the method it's been heat treated. Thanx, Chops

Kinda high. I seen the blades for $70 to $100 Just wondering why there $300 and up Is that labor Alabama Damascus sells by the square inch and then there is a lot of material that cost good money that gets cut off or ground away in the making of the blade. A lot of this material could be saved if a knife maker sent the billets out to be cut to shape by a laser or water jet but then the sole authorship aspect goes out the window. Add adhesives, pins. scale material, bolster material, liner material. electric bills, equipment cost and maintenance, 2X72" abrasive belts at $10+ each, sandpaper, hand tools and the list goes on and on. Make a few from scratch and than come back and question the price. Most knifemakers do good to clear minimum wage. I know.

There's only 1 universal pricing question to be asked, whether it be in relation to knives, leases, cars, homes, etc:
Did it sell?
If the answer is "yes", it wasn't overpriced.
These knives clearly go for what he asks. Hence, the market has declared them worth every penny.

All you need to make a knife Plus Teeth to make more that one knife. Now its not hand cut just saying i dnt see $500 or more Alabama Damascus Knife Blank / ADS0003-DKB $52.00 This is just one blank of the same steel you cut yours from. And Mammoth tooth slices set 11 ounces. 3 ½ inches x 2 ½ inches wide x over ¼ thick. Good colors, fairly stable. Big enough for some pistol grips, larger knives, or used in more than one knife. Mammoth teeth in general are fragile, so a design that surrounds the tooth with other material works well. $250

You guys are trying to compare Apples to Baseballs....I've made knives off and on for myself and friends for yrs..and can appreciate the quality and expertise in the file work, hand fittiting and grinding involved in a total hand made item..I make elec gates for a living..and install factory built also..I've had the light factory built gate get metal fatigue and wear out over a period of yrs and hard use..however one made with heavy material, and welded, fit, and painted properly last longer than any operator made...Same with a handmade knife..like comparing a factory rifle to one a gunsmith spends a yr. making, fitting, & tuning..There's more than just labor..theres' a lot of knowledge. Great Work on the blade and knife..Don Dial, Pipe Creek, Tx
