good luck, especially when you mentiioned the word AR. most landowners even if overrun with hogs fear that liabilty issue and you cant blame them, and if they got cattle, they really dont want to see an AR. I got 2 pastures overrun with hogs, always asked by people if they can come out and got to say no.

The best 'free' hunting is when you buy your own land. Otherwise, you can patiently wait until you see a post here when somebody needs particular help.

jmc82...no liability? do you own land? I have learned over the years about letting people hunt on private property without a signed lease. this a sue happy time if someone gets hurt on your property. I aint letting no one come out except family. I have seen hunters take advantage of this, before you know it, they got buddies with them, trash the place, kill game for no reason, out of season, you name it.

And sadly you have been misinformed about liability. I'll provide the laws regarding this so you can be properly informed.

Money hungry lawyers ARE everywhere, but that doesn't change the liability issues you spoke of. I just really hate seeing people talking about things they have no clue about.

Okay, where are the laws on there being no liability? http://equinelaw.alisonrowe.com/2011/07/...al-use-statute/September will bring the opening of Texas bird hunting season and (hopefully) the onset of cooler weather. This means that many Texans may soon be emerging from air-conditioned vehicles and buildings to enjoy outdoor activities. Texas land owners who allow others to use their land for trail riding, hunting, or other recreational uses should be aware of when Texas law says they may be held liable for injuries arising from the use of their property.

JC: I'm no lawyer but your understanding is approximately the same as mine with regard to the liability you incur when you invite people to hunt on your property. The only question I would ask, however, is "how much does it cost to determine that an invitee was 50% responsible for the injury or death that he/she/they experienced on your property?" Is it fer sure that an invitee was 51% responsible for the spinal injury that he suffered when he walked out a little too far on the cut bank? Did you warn him that the cut bank may be dangerous? Did you get him to sign something to the effect that the invitation you extended to him was in the property's AS IS condition and at his own sole risk?

There is no liability in allowing someone to hunt your land for free. JMC, from your own post 'In the event of a lawsuit, the insurance company would pay up to the cap limits depending on the courts decision, but the landowner pays nothing. ' Whats 'the law' say about 'cap limits' for the poor fella (landowner) who doesn't have insurance??? Last time I checked, 'insurance' aint free, so the landowner DOES have to pay something. Landowners, less you have an extra half-mil laying around, - be a good idea for you to have at least $1,000,0000 umbrella liability policy if you're allowing fellas with guns onto your property (or ATV's, or chainsaws, he ha), whether its friends, family, or for fee, and that it doesn't contain fine-print that excludes coverage for such. Good news is that the insurance isn't too spendy - prolly only couple hundred $/year, depending on lotsa factors.

Good news is that the insurance isn't too spendy - prolly only couple hundred $/year, depending on lotsa factors. In Texas a fifth category exists, thanks to the Texas Legislature. The recreational guest category was added to Texas law in 1989 (Chapter 75, Texas Civil Practices and Remedies Code). A recreational guest is anyone that a landowner gives permission to use his or her property for recreation, including fee paying hunters, school children, mountain bikers or bird watchers. Landowners owe no greater care to a recreational guest than they would a trespasser, provided he or she does not earn more than two times his or her property tax bill from recreational fees (this was changed to four times for landowners with agricultural exemptions beginning September 1, 1997).
