Just curious I went to the vet to take my lab in, she had spots on her but and side of back quarter. They told me she had heat spots... anyone else have that problem?

Never had that problem with mine. But I am sure to bring plenty of water dove hunting for mine. I keep a bowl of water wherever I am set up hunting with her. And every 30 minutes to an hr I take her to the truck for a 15 minute or so break.

Yep, "hot spots" we always called them. I don't think it has anything to do with them drinking water. The problem is they will keep chewing and chewing at the spot, so the vet may give you some stuff that will supposedly taste bad to the dog, but of course it's a dog and I don't know if anything tastes bad to them. It would happen to my family's dog and there wasn't much we could do but feel sorry for her.

Make sure to try and shave them. Put neosporin on them. The main thing is to get air to the spot. This will help it heal faster.

By the way these hot spots don't have a thing to do with dogs drinking water from different containers. Looks as if a few of y'all are confused.

My lab had them...i just went to tractor supply and got some hot spot treatment...washed him with fea shampoo first then just put it on once he dried...did it for about a week and cleared up well. if that dont work you can always try an antibiotic like doxicylin

My lab has had a few. I don't know if he gets bit by a bug or fire ant that starts it, but once he starts on one the cycle just keeps going. The dog will lick and lick, which keeps the area moist, which causes bacteria to grow, which causes more itching... and the cycle continues. My vet told me to take some of the ear cleaner they gave me, put some on a cotton ball, and clean the area real well with it. That's the easy part. The hard part is getting your dog to leave the area alone. I just put one of those cones on him until the spot is dried out and mostly scarred over.
Yeah, don't listen to me. I'm just an idiot.
Lol. Duckbill that was funny! The dude up top has already taken lots of bone before this deer, both mule and whitetail.

Have you changed anything her diet, shampoo, or had your carpet cleaned recently? I agree it's probably an allergy.

gota make sure you clean the sore and let it breath first...can get infected if you just spray strait on a dirty wound and it cant drain out

Mine got them at the begging of the summer right above her tail. Got her shaved which helped, and also was told to throw fish oil in her food. They went away within 2 weeks
