just keep the box and the duds ans yes call them and see what you need to do. they will probably send you more than a box worth. I would for sure check your gun though. buy anouther box of the same stuff but from a different store. dont want to get the same bad batch made as befor from walmart and see if its the gun or the ammo. good luck and keep us posted

Yup, they will usually want all the ammo back and often will send you shipping lables to send it to them. Then a lot of the time Ammo manufactures will send that much ammo for replacement often times double that amount of ammo.

I'd compare the primer dent on fired rounds vs the duds. If the primer shows the firing pin struck all bullets with the same force/impact dent, then the bullets are duds. If the duds show little or no impact dent...it's your rifle. I'm thinking it's going to be a case of some bad bullets. A new rifle should not have any issues unless there's a factory flaw. Factory manufactured bullets are massed produced and I bet a few can get by as duds. 2cents

Cool. What's the primer look like on them? Same dent on all bullets?

Be very careful with this, I've had a hang fire before, round went off 3-5 seconds after the pin struck it.

I've heard this several times re. Winchester recently. They may have got a bad batch of primers. My buddy had an issue with some Winchester Premium stuff, 3 out of 20 had bad primers.

The primers looked different the ones that fired had a rough texture and they stuck out further then the ones that didn't fire so the duds had a shallow dent in them

I was worried that they would go off I put them away from me and the rest of the ammo. There in my closet now I hope they don't go off. I tried a couple times on one of the duds puting it back in my gun and pulling the trigger and it would go off I think the primer was pushed to far in so the firing pin can't hit it hard enough

I don't know about that brand but I had a guy a few years ago shoot at a blackbuck less than 40 yds away with .270 and Federal ammo. The shot was more of a poof or a pop than a bang and the blackbuck just walked off and looked at us. We checked the barrel and it was clear and looked at the ammo and took a few out and some weighed differently than others. Some you could here the powder shaking inside and others were packed tight. He sent the ammo back and Federal confirmed it was a bad batch. They sent him two new boxes of ammo and he had his gun looked over by a gunsmith to make sure there was no damage. So I guess this kind of thing can happen now and then. But I have only had that happen around me one time...EVER.

It can happen and those are the things that lead to factory recalls.

I'd be more likely to suspect the gun in this scenrio. Is there a burr causing the firing pin hang a bit? Or packing grease has it junked up a bit? Did it clear up as you got towards the end of the box?

come to think of it......I had a 30-06 round of Win. Ballistic SilverTip that didnt go off a few weeks ago. I figured it was the gun, because I pulled it out of the closet and took it to the lease to in case I saw a hog. Well I tried to fire it and it just went "Click" and never went off. Ejected it and put another round in and BANG!!! I still have the one that didnt fire in my truck, may be just a fluke though

Yes, 30 some odd years ago I had a box of .270 Federals that would not fire. Unfortunately, I was lined up on a once in a lifetime Buck that walked. It taught me a very important lesson. When I buy ammo I purchase extra boxes from the same lot number. Before hunting season rolls around I fire one or two rounds at the range and use the rest of the box for hunting season. Live and learn.

The gun is brand new this is the first time it's been shot. I pulled the firing pin out and it was fine no grease build up or anything it's a brand new firing pin

this could be a headspace issue also

Try a different brand/box and see what happens, if it does the same thing, you'll have to send the gun in for repair

I hope it is just the ammo and not your gun

did you mention what kind of gun it was?

So the fired brass had good impact dents. The duds had shallow impact dents from the firing pin. And you also said the dud primers appeared further into the primer pocket. Hmmmmm.. scratch Since the rifle is new, I'd fire different bullets from other manufacturers to see if this is a reoccuring problem. If it is, then something is wrong with the firing pin/spring assembly. Or, you just bought a bad batch of bullets from Winchester with primers seated too far in. I reload my own, and I don't think it's possible to seat primers too far into the brass primer pockets, but, I could be wrong. Pics of both fired and dud brass primers could help for further dime store analysis by me. yingyang

You may check the depth of the primer seating..also...I have had
Win AA shotgun shells new/not reloads not fire or misfire..at the
NSSA at the World Skeet Shoot..first yr they did nothing..the next they gave me 2 flats of shells..Really want to make sure you
wait to open the bolt on a misfire..if it is a hangfire and it goes off while opening the bolt..you will and any around you will
get hurt..Don
