I got to thinking about some of this,
20 Colemans at $40 = $800
20 yeti at $200 = $4000
Most of my coolers get stolen $40 is easier to cry over You got it down.

Drop a Coleman out of the truck its done.
currently At the coast 20 lb of ice is still going strong four days later and my 60 qt grizzly has a life time warranty..and is darn near unbreakable
10dollar bicycle lock works wonders.

Just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a cooler.
Great looking house though. i thought the same thing. i got mine as a gift. I love it if your a serious outdoorsman......i would say its worth it I'm going to go and start a yeti debate now, but... What makes it worth it? I take kayak trips every year where we just put $5 in dry ice at the bottom of our ice cooler and it is still rock solid at the end (what ice is left). I'm not planning on running mine over with a tank or whatever else a Yeti can withstand. Why spend 10x what a good Coleman costs? I just don't get it. I also don't buy Rolex watches or spend money on cars. I could afford to, just don't. What is the rationale? I go on some hunting trips where going to town is a pain in the A. I can load the yeti up with ice and 5 days later still have ice in it for my game I kill. Can't do that with my colemans I can put drinks and ice in it and put it in the back of my truck and still have cold drinks after riding around with it in 100 degree heat 3 days later. Cant do that with my colmans or little igloos. I can stand on it, use it as a platform, etc.....cant do that with my colemans. When throwing fish in there, it dosen't Yuck up like my colemans do and stink a little even after a good cleaning. I agree, the roadie is too small to be much good. i'll stick with my other $15 ice chests. I don't need a $200 ice chest to carry a 12 pack off beer. But for longer trips, rougher trips, its worth it IMO to invest in a yeti or similar style ice chest like a sherpa or pelican
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Nice cooler!
Your wife and my wife must have coordinated on the kitchen stuff.Your countertops, cabinets, appliances and floors look exactly like what we have.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Our kayak trips are 2 nights, 3 days and that's the extent of my cooler requirements. Maybe I'll win a Yeti or be gifted one and have a change of heart.

What is the rationale?
Some people who can afford to spend money on those things do so because they want the best. There is not always rationale in things we buy....some buy them because they can and they want. You can probably justify spending the money on a yeti, but is it really necessary? Probably not. I look at things like this as an usable investment the same way I look at nice watches, nice guns, etc....if you ever need the money or just want to get rid of it you can re-sell it for very close to what you paid, or in the case of a nice watch, often-times for more than what you paid. The retained value is very high so in actuality it is not costing you much at all. If you need the money or want to get rid of it, you'll never sell a cheap cooler or Armitron watch and recoup anything for it. All of that money is gone forever.
