I've got an EOTech on top of my black rifle and absolutely love it.

How far do you get with it ?? Ever get it wet and how well does it hold zero I feel comfortable with it out to 100 yards, but I could push it out further with a little practice. I've had it in some light rain and never had a problem with. And I've never had to make any adjustments to it since the day I mounted it & sighted it in.

Only thing I like about Burris one if battery dies scope still has crosshairs .. I do a lot of night hunting This is true. I personally like both of them, I think that out 75 yards the EOTech would also work well. But if the batteries go flat you loose the HUD. But if you carry extra batteries with you in the truck or in your bag, you should have that problem. I wouldn't worry about rain with the EOTech. L3, designed these to be very tough and weather resistant. I want to say that all of them are submersable. Down to 30 feet if I recall correctly. I do not think you will get that with Burris. The are water resistant, but not submursable. What are you using now?

Ok, With most of the Weaver's that I have seen lately that seems uncharacteristic, but anything that is mechanical can fail.
Both the Burris and the EOTech will repeat well for you.
Is this M4, going to be used for home defense as well?
An EOTech will serve this purpose as well.
But, the 1-4 is like using an EOTech and an ACOG in one. 1X can be used with extended eye relief for rapid target engagement. And 4X when you need magnification, but has better eye relief than an ACOG.
I think they are both good, but I would go with the scope.

I've got an Eotech and magnifier on my 6.8 and love the setup! So far it's seems to be the perfect match for both short and long distance, keeping in mind that I won't be shooting that 6.8 terribly far to begin with (<300m). Neither will you with your .300BLK. In the end, the Eotech setup can be more expensive, but having used low powered variables on slug guns, I think it's still faster when speed counts. For ME, I like the adaptability and the speed-we hunt in some thick stuff and tight terrain at times where being able to snap off a shot and make it count is the only way you'll bring home any pork.
Try to 'test drive' a couple different setups if you have buddies with AR's. My opinion is one of the many you'll get and like those, it's based on what works for ME. I waded through a ton of opinions and gear before settling on the configuration of AR that works best, let alone optics! That does include standard 3x9 variables, lower powered variables, lit reticles, iron sights and an Aimpoint CompM2. I can make them all work, but I quit looking when I got my setup.

You may find the the EOTech hologragh is difficult to see because it is fuzzy. And like wise with a certain reticle. Some recticle subtentions are thinner or thicker than others.
