Entered this years "Texas Slam" drawing put on by TPWL and it occurred to me that I’d never be able to complete this quest without being drawn. The rare bighorn permit that gets sold pushes 6 figures. If you’re not already aware, TPWL considers the Texas Slam as a Trophy White Tail, Mule Deer, Pronghorn, and Desert Bighorn Sheep.
So with all the exotics and ferals now indigenous to the State of Texas… what would you consider the Texas Poor Man’s Slam? With a cap of let’s say 6 animals?

Interesting question. If I was putting together a free-range TX "poor mans slam" it would look like this. All these animals can be hunted free-range, and all can be hunted for under $2.5K each, some much less.
-WT -Axis -Aoudad -Pronghorn -Mule Deer -Nilgai
Runners up included free-range Blackbuck and Mouflon/Corsican.

Runners up included free-range Blackbuck and Mouflon/Corsican. Good list. I'd agree for the most part but would sub a 300lb Boar for the Nilgia. Not a lot of opportunity on Nilgia at $2500 (that I’ve seen)

King ranch is $750 per day plus $1k harvest fee. Most guys are able to take a bull the first day for $1,750 total. Throw in gas, food, lodging, and tip and you'd still be under 2.5k.
But, I could see a boar over 250lb making the list. They get pretty smart once they get that big.

I'd throw alligator on the list. I can't think of any other place where you can hunt alligator, desert mule deer, whitetail, and pronghorn never leaving the state.

Poor Mans Slam Some of you folks don't know what poor is I guess when I talk about a "slam" it's a long-term deal, may take me 30+ years to do. The version I posted is pretty much my own personal TX "slam" goal. May take me 5 years to save up for each hunt, everybody should be able to sock a little away. 2 down, 4 to go. Should be done by the time I'm Ranchman's age Even then, my slam is a drop in the bucket compared to the TX grand slam, the NA sheep slam, or going on a full Africa Safari. Those may never happen.

You list would be a good one. I would want them all LF or the list would get too long for the exotics and the ones you have on your list could be expected in Texas

Other good news is the State Draw hunts gives me at least a shot at several on my list on the cheap. High hopes for this year.

Ok ok, I define poor mans slam as less than $500, not all of us have 2500 to spend on a few deer hunts, especially when you can have more fun for cheaper hunting something else. Let me restart Whitetail Turtle(must be recovered) Bobcat Hog Skunk/ possum/ coon Dove/ rio grande turkey
