That old saying "only in certain months" is a myth. They are safe to eat any time of the year, I eat rabbits year round. Where I hunt the rabbits have more worms in the Winter months than the Summer, just don't eat the worms without tequila

Those worms - are they intestinal or live in muscle tissues?

I have eaten a lot of rabbits. Including cottontails, jackrabbits and swamp rabbits. Many of them I took in the summer months. I never ran across anything cleaning them that put me off till this last one that I harvested. I started to clean this rabbit and out of the bullethole popped up something that looked like an episode from 'alien'. It was about the size of my pinky finger and it had an attitude. I told my dad about it, he said that it had wolves. I said dad I know it's big and mean but it's not a wolf. He laughed and said no son those are the larva of a Bot fly and their commonly referred to as Wolves. Well I suppose protein is protein and if I was hungry enough I guess I would overlook it or maybe even Eat it. Warning don't Google Wolves/Bot fly unless you have a strong stomach or you just want to scare your children away from eating rabbits. I still do eat rabbits in the summer months but if the rabbit moves long after it's dead like this one did, use it for coyote bait.

they are safe to eat after they are fried!!

i hunt and eat them year round. never had a problem. people say the same thing about pigs but i hunt them 12 months out of the year.
