What are the most reliable mechanicals on the market? I don't really care if it make a hole the size of a mack truck... long as it opens and makes a hole every time....

I would think Grim Reapers since they do not rely on o-rings or rubber bands. The blades on the grim reapers just pivot so the chances of something blocking them is low. With the way the rage slide back to open perhaps something could stop that action. Everyone gets pissy with Grim Reapers because they find the blades closed after the shot. When the arrow is stopped with force the blades fold back down and if you were to check the exit there would be three cuts.

If you are all about opening up then fixed blades are for you.

Agreed here. I really like Rage's but I dont shoot them all that much. I am going to try out Grim Reapers and Shwackers this year on some piggies but my go to BH is G5 Montec CS. I opens them up every time.

Grim Reaper but if like scot said if your only worried about it opening, stick with fixed blades.

I have been shooting spitfires by NAP for longer than I can remember. I have never had a single issue and have harvested somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 deer with them. Most of those deer were Kansas deer and all of them were pass thru's.

That’s really an oxymoron; Mechanical and reliable. If it moves it’s subject to failure. But if I only had one option, I would use Grim Reapers.

I use Inverter mechanicals and have always killed deer with them. Always opened up like they are suppoed to and leave a decent sized hole both entrance and exit.

This is the best answer that I have seen.

Kudos!

Have used Rage for as long as they have been on the market. To this date I have not had any problems.

Spitfires have never let me down and I have killed a pile of deer and I don't know how many hogs with them. Shoot like fieldtips and you get a good blood trail.

I haven't hunted with a compound in two years since I went traditional archery only I have been shooting muzzy phantoms and Magnus 2 blades and had really good luck with both.

I bought 2 packages of the Swhacker broadheads when they had a buy one get one free promotion. I haven't tried them yet though.

A lot of people tend to stay away from o-rings, but I shot Vortex broadheads my first 4-5 years bow hunting and never had an issue with them expanding. The furthest tracking I had to do was 60 yards.

I expect great things from Swhacker this fall!!!

I haven't shot them, but have heard great things about them. If I was going to try a different one, I would try these.

Spitfires. Killed many a critter with them, never had a broken blade, neevr a flyer, and never had one fail to open. Good penetration as well. Shot a pronghorn in North Dakota several years ago at 55 yards, complete pass through.

X2

JUST A QUESTION If a big hole is not your objective why not use fixed.
