i am a first year bow hunter and this morning i had a 10-point buck walk into my feeder right after dawn. He stayed for about ten minutes eating corn but never turned his body, always facing me and checking me out. i know he didn't smell me or see any movement because he didn't spook, but he was definitely very cautious. my "brush blind" is a thicket of yopuns that i have cut out. Am I wasting my time trying to hunt from the ground or is there something i can do to improve my situation? i don't want to miss another awesome opportunity. Any suggestion? i am using scent-away and full camo.

I've had several bowkills from brushblinds. We normally cut cedar limbs and brush them up a bunch. This year I used popup blinds placed in the "cutout" of a cedar and then brushed it up. I shot a nine point scoring 115 opening day at 10 yards.

I would say that it just didn't work out THIS TIME. I have shot a lot of animals from natural ground blinds. I got a Sika opening weekend and another one this past Sunday night and they were both under 14 yards with me in a ground blind. I had several whitetail does and yearlings around me at various times as well as an awesome 8 point. SO I would say yeh they work and NO you are not wasting your time. Main thing is make sure you are brushed in really good, you have plenty of brush behind and around you to break up your outline, and the darker you can make the hole your sitting in the better. It will pay off eventually, you just have to be patient. I know it's hard with a big ol' buck staring you in the eye at such a short distance but keep trying, it just makes it that much sweeter when it happens

I shoot 80% of my bucks from johnson grass and ragweed. Keep it up it will work. Possibly your body was not the exact color or broken up enough. Try one of those head coverings that have fake leaves hanging off all over. See my jacket I use in this section under "My 2005 buck" It works great and has a head cover.

I posted just about the same question last week. Decided Sunday AM to go clear out a shooting window in a cedar tree close to the area where the deer keep popping out. I laid a bit of fox urine as a cover scent, set up a chair and dosed it really good with scent killer. Went back at 16:45. Wasn't long before I had a pencil head buck, mama doe and 2 babies at 15'...not YDS! (Let's not talk about the shot...I'm still crying ) Before I left, I had a Bobcat walk into the tree cover with me! I'm convinced this is a great method, and thanks to all who encouraged me!
